Housing Element Update
The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) determines the City’s share of the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) allocation, which is the number of housing units the City must accommodate over the next eight-year Cycle. The City’s allocation of 517 units is spread across all income levels. Zoning Ordinance Amendments needed for the four housing sites were introduced at the City Council meeting on July 12, 2022 and approved on July 26, 2022.   The City’s draft 6th Cycle Housing Element Update (HEU) is scheduled to be reviewed and adopted at the City Council meeting on September 27, 2022. For more information, go to:

Heritage Point Park Grand Opening
Nearly 60 people attended the grand opening of Heritage Point Park on Friday, July 8. It was a fun and exciting afternoon, with community partners, such as Home Depot, in attendance to celebrate the City’s new amenity.

The park features a walking trail connection from Skyline down to Creston Avenue with walking access to City Hall. In addition to the walking trail, the park has seating areas for guests to enjoy spectacular views of the coastline, the Port of Long Beach, the new Desmond Bridge, and Rancho Palos Verdes. The park design also includes an interactive educational element that provides information on the park’s environmentally conscious design and how the park will further the City’s sustainability efforts.

This park serves as a link for pedestrians to what the City envisions will be a connected trail system that will be incorporated into future developments. The park is intended for passive use and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
