Community Meeting on Crestview Hotel

The demolition work has begun to make way for the City of Mountain View’s new Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center.

The Aquatics Center will replace an aging building that opened in 1959. The modern, all-inclusive 8,200-square-foot facility will feature a lap pool, a recreation pool with additional shallow lap lanes, locker and shower facilities, and a multi-purpose room. 

The project utilizes the latest in green building design features including an all-electric system of innovative solar panels that provide both photovoltaic as well as solar thermal energy to heat the nearly 500,000 gallons of pool water.

While construction is underway, parking will be restricted to all vehicles on a portion of Crisanto Avenue through Sept. 30. The parking impacts are related to PG&E capping off natural gas to the existing building (located in the Crisanto right-of-way) before the contactor can finish demolishing the existing building and pools. In addition, over the next several months, there will be many large trucks hauling out debris and hauling in construction materials. Due to this activity, parking will be restricted for the portion of the street around the parking lot/construction staging area to handle the truck traffic.

Since last month, City staff has conducted outreach in English and Spanish to inform people parking on Crisanto Avenue of the upcoming construction work including most recently about parking restrictions.

Also, with the closure of the pool parking lot, park users are encouraged to park in the other available parking lots located by the barbecue area, Mountain View Senior Center or Mountain View Community Center. In addition, portable restrooms and a handwashing station have been added next to the Rengstorff Park BBQ parking lot to serve park users.

Over the coming months, crews will demolish the old pool building and begin framing for the new facility. Completion of the new Aquatics Center is anticipated in late summer/early fall 2023.

PG&E has started a project to install underground electrical facilities along Shoreline Boulevard, Terra Bella Avenue and Linda Vista Avenue.

The first phase is an underground site investigation scheduled to take place through Friday. The investigation is being conducted at night to assess worker safety on Shoreline Boulevard, allow the work to be completed more quickly, and minimize impacts on traffic. Work began the week of May 16 and will take approximately three weeks to complete.

The first KidStock performance of the year is this Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Civic Center Plaza.

AndyZ and the Andyland Band will be performing. Children and parents will be captivated by Andy’s easy-going, fun and infectious musical style. He combines his passion for music with his love of storytelling, character voices and performance.

The event will also have a balloon artist, caricaturist and crafts to round out the event. Sponsored by Right at School, Kidstock takes place on the third Saturday of the month from May through July.

Strap on a helmet, jump on your bike and ride on over to the Citywide Bike Rodeo on Saturday, May 21 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m.at the Rengstorff Park (201 Rengstorff Ave.) basketball courts.

During this free event, families will learn safe cycling skills in a fun and engaging atmosphere. And the best part is that they can use those new skills right away by planning the safest routes to and from their regular destinations, like school.

Topics will include:

1.   Helmet fitting

2.   Bicycle hand signaling

3.   Bicycle course – practicing skills and navigating intersections

4.   Minor bicycle maintenance
