News and Information from the City of Mountain View

Castro Street Traffic Signal Update

On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the traffic signal on Castro Street at California Street will be turned on to standard operation for vehicles and pedestrians on the three approaches of the intersection.

The 300 block of Castro Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic.

Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to follow the signal indications to cross and to use caution when entering the intersection.

This latest traffic signal change is part of the Castro Street Crossings Traffic Signal Reactivation Pilot Project. All pilot project locations will be evaluated for the appropriate long-term traffic control for the project underway to create a Castro Street Pedestrian Mall

Pickleball Pilot Program Proceeds

This December, the City will launch the Pickleball Pilot Program, starting with adding blended lines to a select number of courts at Rengstorff Park. The pilot will add six pickleball courts with blended lines to two Rengstorff Park tennis courts and have designated times for pickleball and tennis play. Pending weather conditions, tennis courts three and four will be closed for the addition of the blended striping on Monday, Dec. 5 through Wednesday, Dec.7.

The Pickleball Pilot Program will then begin on Thursday, Dec. 8 and will last for six months.

Three rollaway pickleball nets will be available on courts three and four during playable hours with additional nets available for checkout at the Mountain View Community Center front desk during business hours. Once the pilot begins, the City will monitor court usage and collect feedback to return to the Tennis Advisory Board and Parks and Recreation Commission with an update on the program in spring 2023.

Pilot program hours of play for pickleball on the blended courts are:

  • Monday through Friday and Sunday: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Monday and Thursday: 6 - 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 2 - 7 p.m.

All other hours not listed are dedicated to tennis. Also, hours for this pilot program are subject to change.

COVID-19 Briefing

COVID-19 Resources Still Available for Those in Need

There are still resources available for those impacted by COVID-19 whether directly or indirectly to take care of a family member. Make sure to take a look at the County of Santa Clara Public Health COVID-19 resources directory which includes CalWIN

Wastewater Monitoring County Dashboard

Wastewater data has increased in importance as more COVID-19 testing happens at home, meaning positive cases reported from doctor’s offices and testing sites do not provide a full or complete picture of COVID-19 locally. The County of Santa Clara has now made access to local wastewater data easier with its online dashboard about the level of viruses like COVID-19 and influenza in wastewater in our area.
