Early this summer, the Governor called on all Californians to conserve water. Due to the ongoing drought, the Mountain View City Council is scheduled to consider declaring a Stage 1 water shortage emergency condition at the Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Updates will be provided regarding any new water demand reduction measures.
Please reduce landscape water use and turn off outdoor watering systems when it rains and during the winter season. Trees and plants create wonderful benefits to our community, and Mountain View encourages customers to keep mature trees and plants healthy by watering them as needed.
Additionally, the City recommends checking for water leaks, fixing broken or defective water systems, and taking advantage of Valley Water’s rebate programs and conservation resources. Rebates allow eligible customers to transform their lawn to water-wise landscaping, upgrade inefficient irrigation components such as outdated sprinkler timers to smart weather-based controllers, and install rain barrels, greywater systems and more.
- Do Not:
- Allow water to runoff into paved areas (gutters, sidewalks, streets).
- Allow broken equipment to wastewater.
- Wash paved surfaces with a hose that does not have an automatic shutoff nozzle to stop the flow of water.
- Do:
- Install an automatic shutoff nozzle on your hose when washing vehicles at home.
- Fix leaks within 10 days of noticing them.
- Restaurants: Ask before serving water.
