Spring 2025

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

- Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV

Hello, Friend!

After months of bundling up and staying indoors, it’s refreshing to see our children and youth soaking in the sunshine again! There’s something special about spring that stirs joy and reminds us of God’s renewing work, both in creation and in our hearts. We believe deeply in the power of the gospel to transform lives. That’s why teaching God’s Word remains central to our programs. We’re encouraged as we witness the fruits of spiritual seeds planted through Bible stories, worship, prayers and loving relationships.

As we reflect on this season of growth, we want to take a moment to celebrate the many volunteers who help make our work possible. Whether leading Bible lessons, tutoring after school, preparing snacks, or simply showing up with a listening ear, their loving presence opens the hearts of our children and youth to see the love rooted in Christ. Their faithful service is watering seeds that God is growing in His time.

This spring has also brought opportunities to come together in meaningful ways through our annual fundraisers. These moments of fellowship not only help sustain the work we do but also remind us why we do it. Every dollar raised, every prayer spoken, and every connection made strengthens our ability to share the hope of Jesus with children and youth impacted by poverty. Thank you for being part of this mission. Together, we’re planting seeds of hope that will grow far beyond this season.

Spring Highlights

March Break Sonshine Day Camp

From March 10th to 14th, TCM hosted our annual March Break Sonshine Day Camp across our communities. This year’s theme focused on godly friendships, and campers explored stories of Elijah & Elisha, Paul & Barnabas, and Jesus & His disciples. From Don Valley Village’s first field trip that brought kids from different sites together to a special visit from Sunshine Therapy Dogs, many joyful memories and new friendships were created!

As last year, we gathered all youth from all three ministry communities on the last day of March Break. Every Youth Day reminds us of God’s love and faithfulness over each youth’s life. Their growth in faith and willingness to learn more about God’s Word, reflects God’s transformational power. Please pray for the youth as they continue to grow into Christ-like leaders in our programs and in their communities.

Introducing Melody!

Melody has a passion for serving children and families impacted by poverty. Before joining TCM, she worked with a faith-based humanitarian organization, where she realized that meeting physical needs alone does not bring lasting hope – true transformation comes from God’s power.

She is excited to use the skills God has given her to develop close partnerships with churches and inspire more people to support children and families impacted by poverty.

Volunteer Appreciation Week

From April 27 to May 3, we celebrated National Volunteer Appreciation Week.

Our ministry communities hosted a dinner for our volunteers who have been faithfully serving throughout the year or even years to support our programs. Helping to be the avenue for our children and youth to discover Christ as their eternal hope.

Thank you, volunteers!

Power of Community!

This March and May, we were deeply moved by the unity and purpose reflected through our two fundraising events. Whether the attendees were long-time supporters, first-time participants, believers, or those simply drawn to the importance of creating safe and loving spaces for children and youth impacted by poverty to grow, each person played a role in something bigger than just an event.

We are thrilled to share that both events exceeded our fundraising goals!

  • Spikeback Against Poverty raised $13,496 of the $ 12,000 goal to help send 107 children to camp for one week!
  • Strikeout Poverty raised $21,863 of the $18,000 goal to help send 87 kids to TCM’s After School Programs for one month!

Both our annual fundraisers; Spikeback Against Poverty and Strikeout Poverty tournaments, reminded us that community is not just about gathering, but about coming together with a shared hope and vision: families impacted by poverty will lead transformed lives. We are so grateful and excited to continue walking alongside our families we serve.

Volunteer Perspective: Jessie Chen

One of our volunteers, Jessie Chen, shared her reflection on being a volunteer tutor in our EPIC program.

Jessie initially faced moments of doubt, wondering if her efforts truly made a difference. But in the small, unexpected moments, she discovered the deeper purpose of serving.

What changed her perspective, and how did she find true freedom in serving?
