Lighting Up the Parks

Get into the holiday spirit during the 39 th annual lighting ceremonies of Holiday Park at Krug Park and the South Pole at Hyde Park on Friday, November 29. The festivities start with the flipping of the switch at Holiday Park at 6pm, by Mayor Bill McMurray along with help provided by children in attendance. Cookies and hot cocoa will be available. The East Hills Optimist Club continues to work with the parks department to support this annual event.

The Southside Progressive Board will host the lighting ceremony of the South Pole starting at 7pm, with light refreshments and entertainment provided by the Lafayette High School strings section. Residents have the opportunity to take a drive or a walk around the park to see all the lighting displays.

The public is invited to attend both lighting ceremonies. For more information about the ceremonies, contact the parks department at 271-5501 or follow on Facebook to stay informed of all the department’s activities.
Open Burning Ends Soon

As a reminder, open burning will end on November 30. Open burning is approved to take place between the hours of 8am-6pm. Only dry yard waste such as leaves, brush and logs grown on the residential property may be burned. Residents are encouraged to explore alternatives to open burning. Many options for disposing of yard waste are easy, do not contribute to air pollution, are not dependent on time restrictions or the weather and provide the health benefit of physical activity while doing yard work.
