Winter Pet Care

With the colder weather, it’s important to think about our four-legged friends. Ice melt can hurt your pet’s paws, so be sure to wash their feet when they’ve been exposed. Watch out for antifreeze as this poison will taste sweet to animals and is fatal if not treated immediately. Under the new city ordinance , animals cannot be tethered outside between 10pm-6am, for more than 30 minutes without adequate food, water and shelter. Animals cannot be tethered if the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sticking to Your Resolution

The St. Joseph Parks, Recreation, & Civic Facilities Department wants to help you keep your New Year’s resolutions in check this winter. Here are some of the facilities who have activities and programs available to help you stay on track for 2019.

The REC Center offers a full-service fitness center, indoor track and exercise classes along with other recreational amenities.

The Thomas Eagleton Indoor Pool, located at Missouri Western State University, gives visitors the chance to get in some laps during the winter months.

The trail system is a great option for those looking to get outdoors when the sun is out. The trails are plowed every time it snows to keep them safe for users.

Bode Ice Arena offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy ice skating or to even join a curling league.

The Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Center is open for those 50 years and older looking to enjoy the facility's fitness center, exercise classes and dances throughout the week.
