Emergency Preparedness
CERT Academy Graduates Emergency Preparedness Volunteers
Santa Clara County Fire Department instructors recently taught Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in Los Altos. These volunteers completed 21 hours of training in first aid, search and rescue techniques, disaster psychology, fire extinguisher use, patient triage and treatment, and more. They wrapped up their training with a hands-on drill, with volunteers playing the role of injured people, where the trainees conducted search and rescue, patient assessment, and treatment. Mayor Lynette Lee Eng and Los Altos Police Captain Katie Krauss joined Santa Clara County Fire Department staff in congratulating the CERT graduates.

The new Los Altos CERT graduates have been invited to register as Disaster Service Worker Volunteers in the CERT program, which regularly holds drills and skills refresh training in order to maintain their readiness to help the community in an emergency. To learn more about emergency preparedness and the Los Altos CERT program, please see  https://www.losaltosca.gov/police/page/los-altos-prepares .
Pet Emergency Preparedness Class
Learn about Emergency Preparedness and First Aid for Pets from Engineer/Paramedic Jon Boucher of the City of Santa Clara Fire Department on Saturday, November 2nd, 9:00am to 11:30am, at the Los Altos History Museum.

Personal emergency preparedness is the foundation for resilience, and this preparedness must encompass all members of your family—including pets. Just like humans, pets will need emergency supplies of food, water, medication as well as sanitation and shelter. However, pets have some special needs which should factor into our disaster planning. This class will provide information to help in both the pre-incident preparation as well as the post-incident care of dogs & cats. Topics will include:

  • Emergency preparedness steps relating to pets
  • Safety around injured house pets
  • Medical evaluation of dogs and cats
  • Dog and Cat First aid procedures

Engineering
Fremont Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation
The City created a survey to gather ideas from residents about potential improvements along Fremont Avenue. This project encompasses Fremont Avenue, between Grant Road and Stevens Creek Bridge City Limit. We are currently in the design phase of the project and we hope to use this input to create a project that better suits the needs of all residents. Even if you don't have a specific idea, you can support and comment on other resident's ideas. Your input is important to us and we are excited to see your ideas. Visit the City's website at www.losaltosca.gov/opentownhall to participate.
Maintenance
Leave Them Where They Lie
Now that Fall is here, the Maintenance department wants to remind residents about fallen leaf disposal. If leaves fall into the street, do not sweep them into piles. The street sweeper can clean up any loose leaves but is unable to pick up piles of leaves. If leaves are piled up, the street sweeper won’t pick them up. Also, please do not blow any leaves into street; the street sweepers cannot handle the additional volume of leaves. Mission trail will provide large green debris tote bags twice a year for leaf disposal. Thank you for your cooperation!
