1540 Miramonte Building Permit Ready to Issue
The two-story mixed use building at 1540 Miramonte Avenue in the Loyola Corners neighborhood is one step closer to the start of construction now that all the requirements for issuance of a building permit have been met. This project is a two-story mixed-use building with four residential units on the upper floor and commercial lease space on the lower level, along with parking spaces. First Street Green Office and Public Plaza CEQA Initial Study Available for Public Review
The Environmental Initial Study for the First Street Green Office and Public Plaza project at 101-151 First Street is now available for public review. The project includes a 77,000 square-foot office building with a community room (approx. 1,000 square feet), café space (approx. 1,200 square feet), and a 22,000 square-foot public plaza. The public review period for initial study is 20 days and ends on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. The project is scheduled for review by the Planning Commission on Thursday, November 16 at 6:00 p.m. Project plans and the initial study can be

Loyola Corners Specific Plan Update to be Considered by City Council
An update to the Loyola Corners Specific Plan will be taken up by the City Council at its
meeting on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. The update includes minor amendments to the types of commercial uses that are allowed on the first level of a building, clarification on height limit, a square footage allotment for residential development in the area and amendments to the circulation changes that are part of the current plan.
Associate Planner Recruitment
Finalists for the Associate Planner position have been identified and interviews are being schedule in the upcoming weeks. The vacancy at the Associate Planner position was created when the planner serving in that position was offered a job in another agency. Interviews of candidates will be scheduled soon. Planners are looking forward to having a full complement of staff to help process applications and assist those who come to the counter or call with questions and requests for guidance on the application of zoning codes and permitting processes.

Fall Festival this Weekend in Downtown Los Altos
The Los Altos Chamber of Commerce will host its 26th Annual Fall Festival this Saturday and Sunday (October 7-8) in Downtown Los Altos. While enjoying the festival, we hope you will stop by our booth to say “hello” and pick up some goodies. The festival will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both days in the South Parking Plazas, located behind Main Street, between San Antonio Road and First Street. The Fall Festival will feature live entertainment, fine wines and micro-breweries, food, children's games and train, arts & craft booths and a classic car show.
Traffic & Parking Impacts
- Be sure to watch for “No Parking” signs posted in the event area
- All South Parking Plazas located between San Antonio Road and First Street will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning this evening, Friday, October 6, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. The Parking Plazas will reopen on Sunday, October 8 by 9:00 p.m.
- Street parking will be available and all other Parking Plazas will remain open

Pumpkin Carving with a Cop
Community members are invited to bring their pumpkins for an afternoon of fun with Los Altos Police Officers! We will host our 2
nd Annual Pumpkin Carving with a Cop event on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hillview Community Center, Multipurpose Room, 97 Hillview Avenue. We will be carving pumpkins alongside fellow jack o’ lantern enthusiasts while answering questions during this fun, FREE, family-friendly event. Participants are asked to bring their own pumpkins. We’ll provide carving tools and refreshments. We hope to see you there!

City-wide Street Improvement Projects
The first phase of the City-wide Street Improvement Project, consisting of pothole repairs, has been completed. Phase two, which includes various street treatments such as rubberized chip seal and micro surfacing, is currently underway. The City’s contractor completed rubberized chip seal this week and will begin micro surfacing next week; micro surfacing will last for three weeks. Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) Corrosion Rehabilitation Project
The City’s contractor, Insituform Technologies, LLC, will begin sewer main repairs next week as part of a
CIPP Corrosion Rehabilitation Project. Work will consist of lining one 24-inch sanitary sewer main located on Del Medio Avenue located between Miller Avenue and Silva Avenue, as well as two 30-inch sanitary sewer mains located on Covington Road between Seena Avenue and Golden Way and between Russel Avenue and Covington Court. The lining of sewer mains mitigates corrosion in the sewer lines. An above-ground, temporary sewer bypass system will be installed at both locations during the project. The work on Del Medio Avenue will begin on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 and will be completed in approximately two weeks. The lining work at Covington Road is planned to start the week of October 23 and will take approximately three weeks to complete.
City Hall HVAC System Upgrades Project
The City’s contractor, Omni Construction Services, Inc., began mobilization on August 21, 2017, with the installation of a temporary construction fence to enclose the work area outside City Hall. This week the contractor performed concrete work, constructing fence post footings and pads to support the new air conditioning (AC) units. The contractor is planning to deliver the new AC units by the end of next week. This project is expected to be completed at the beginning of December.
Water Main Upgrades
California Water Service Company (CalWater) has been working on water main upgrades on Arboleda Drive, Los Pajaros Court and La Prenda Road. CalWater’s contractor has been performing service connections to the residents on Los Pajaros Court and performed testing and flushing for the water main on Arboleda Drive. Traffic control measures are in place and street sweeping is performed daily. Minimum traffic delays are anticipated as work is underway. The tentative schedule to complete this project is the end of October.

The Los Altos Parks & Recreation Commission is pleased to present
Twas 3 Nights Before Halloween Movie Night. This event will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Grant Park, 1575 Holt Avenue. The following movies will be shown:

Kinder Prep Field Trip
Kinder Prep students enjoyed walking to a local bank to learn about the role of banks in their community. Most importantly, they learned that safe deposit boxes hold important things when they opened one to find a treasure left especially for them! The Kinder Prep program is full, though we still have openings for Tiny Tots in the Terrific Three’s and Fabulous 4’s programs that take place at San Antonio Club.
Senior Program
There are still openings in our QiGong for Health course. A Chinese health practice that involves breathing techniques and easy flowing movements, QiGong rejuvenates the spine, hips, shoulders and improves the immune system while reducing pain, stabilizing blood pressure and boosting energy levels! Join Instructor Anya Kroth as she leads you through the motions each Friday at the Hillview Senior Program, Room 11, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Call (650) 947-2797 to register or come to Room 10.
