City Manager Weekly Update
Community D evelopment

Last Day! Downtown Vision Questionnaire
We have had over 1,400 community members complete the Downtown Vision Community Questionnaire! If you have not completed it yet, it’s not too late. The deadline to provide input is tonight, Friday, July 7th at 11:59 p.m. To complete the questionnaire, visit losaltosca.gov/OpenCityHall.

Next, the consultant team will develop a few scenarios of how the Downtown could be altered to meet the community’s desires based on the input collected from the questionnaire as well as information gathered at other community events and the market/economic analysis completed earlier this year. The proposed scenarios are expected to be taken to the City Council in late August and then presented to the community for response and further input in September.

Public Works

City-wide Street Improvement Projects
The City of Los Altos will begin a city-wide street improvement project in the next couple of weeks. Work will be completed in two phases, beginning with repairing potholes and cracked sections of pavement. Phase two will consist of various street treatments including asphalt overlay, rubberized chip seal, and micro surfacing. Each of these treatments is designed to replace, repair or preserve the condition of existing roadway. The Los Altos City Council has made it a priority to improve the overall condition of the City’s pavement system and has programmed an average of $2,000,000 per year over the next 5 years to fund street improvement projects. The funds have allowed us to provide treatment to over 18 miles of street this year.

The immediate residents and business owners along the street segments that will have work performed will be notified by the contractor 48 hours in advance of any work that is planned to take place. Please understand that due to the nature of this work, the schedules must remain flexible to allow work to proceed and be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible. Temporary “NO PARKING” signs will be posted on barricades throughout the work area. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions about the project, please contact the City of Los Altos Engineering Division at (650) 947-2780, or check the City website for City Project updates at www.losaltosca.gov

Preparing Downtown for Art & Wine Festival
Our maintenance staff have a daily presence in downtown to provide routine maintenance. This weekend brings the 38th Annual Los Altos Art & Wine Festival to our Downtown and maintenance crews were extra busy preparing for the big event. Trees were trimmed and the canopies were raised, landscaping was pruned and made to look pristine. The crews’ hard work has been highlighted with the splash of color provided by the City maintained flower pots. Flowers showcasing their color in time for the festival was no accident; it was through the crews’ careful planning and timely execution.

Maintenance crews were also busy delivering barricades and barriers for street closures to enable all the vendors to set up Friday evening in preparation for the weekend festival. Once the festivities are over and folks relive the memories, crews will return the downtown back to normal activities.

Eagle Scout Project in Redwood Grove
Congratulations to Eagle Scout Candidate Alfred Chang on the completion of his Eagle Scout project in Redwood Grove. Alfred and his fellow troop members installed a new split rail fence along the western edge of Adobe Creek. The approximately 140-foot-long fence will assist with the creek bank restoration efforts in the park and look great for years to come!

There were 450 people who attended and gave City staff very positive feedback about all the festivities that took place on this day.
