San Leandro City Council, Residents, and City Employees

Greetings on the first day of July! I hope your Fourth of July Holiday is enjoyable this weekend as we celebrate our nation's independence.

As a reminder, City Hall reopened on June 15th with limited in-person services. In-person services are by appointment only. Click here to schedule an appointment. The City produced a City Hall Reopening PSA video. In the video, Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter walks you through the appointment process and building logistics when you arrive for your appointment at City Hall.

The proper dissemination of public information is vital to a community's knowledge and understanding of civic activities and events. Therefore, the City requests your feedback on the communication channels we use to reach you with news, announcements, and community events. The survey will take six minutes to complete.

With assistance from a State of California grant, the City of San Leandro is updating its multi-family residential development standards to help ensure quality multi-family and mixed-use housing. As the San Leandro Multi-Family Development Standards project moves from the analysis stage to the consideration of various options, there are new project documents on the project website and upcoming opportunities for participation.

Subject: Annual Street Overlay / Rehabilitation 2019-21, Project No. 2020.0050 General Project Notice - Optional Driveway Approach Replacement Program

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION

This report provides information regarding letters which will be sent to certain residents on the street segments of the Annual Street Overlay / Rehabilitation 2019-21 project. This notice is for information only and no action is required.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

Design is in progress on the $13 million Annual Street Overlay/Rehabilitation 2019-21 project, which is expected to be completed in late Summer 2021. Construction is expected to start in Summer 2022.
The attached letters will be sent to approximately 418 property owners that are located on the streets listed below to determine their interest in replacing their substandard driveways. Most of the homeowners, if interested in the replacement, will pay for the full costs of the replacement; however, certain homeowners on qualifying streets will be allowed to share the costs of the replacement with the City.

In 2005, by Resolution No. 2005-156, the City Council amended Title 8, Chapter 5 of the Administration Code to allow for the City to equally share the cost of replacing substandard residential driveways on certain streets that are reconstructed. The amendment, also, authorized the City to suspend the program when insufficient funds are available for its implementation. A residence, under this amendment will be qualified if the street is under construction, the driveway is substandard and the pavement elevation at the gutter has been significantly lowered in the course of the street reconstruction.
