The Latest from Doug
This week, we celebrated yet another milestone for the Senior Center East project located along the Murchison Road Corridor. With a black sharpie, we signed our names on the final structural beam to be put in place to complete the building’s frame. In 2016, our residents approved the $35 million bond package. This was to improve the existing parks and recreation centers and to build new ones, especially for our seniors. We continue to focus on creating a desirable place to live, work and recreate. That goal does not have an age limit. Building a much needed second senior center on this side of the City is evidence of how important enhancing the quality for all residents is to us.
Similar to the Bill Crisp Senior Center near Lake Rim, this center will feature amenities such a warm water pool, racquet ball courts, a fitness room with exercising equipment, a library, lounge areas, large multi-purpose room, a kitchen, locker rooms and more. I’m excited and looking forward to seeing the smile on our seniors faces when we open the doors to the facility.
When an emergency occurs, we automatically think about the number 911. But 911 is more than a number. Our 911 communications team is an amazing and critical group of individuals who work around the clock to provide services across our City. Our dispatchers exhibit compassion, understanding and professionalism while handling each call that comes into the center. This week is National 911 Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. A week we celebrate and honor them and simply say thank you.
On behalf of the City, I want to personally thank each and every one of them for their hard work, dedication and love they have for our residents and those who are visiting our great City.
Best,
Doug
