City Manager's Report

August 23, 2024 | FayettevilleNC.gov

The Latest from Doug

As we approach the weekend, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the incredible opportunities in our beautiful City, from making your voice heard about upcoming city projects to enjoying events around town.

I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to contribute to the City of Fayetteville’s Pedestrian Plan. Our goal is to create a more pedestrian-friendly city, but we need your input to make that happen. Whether you enjoy walking, jogging, or simply taking a leisurely stroll, your feedback is vital in helping us design safer streets and better sidewalks for everyone. You can also join us for the public workshop on August 28th, from 4 - 7 p.m., at the FAST Transit Center located at 505 Franklin St. to let your voice be heard and visit our website at FayettevilleNC.gov/WalkingSafe for more information.

This weekend is packed with exciting events for everyone to enjoy. Starting with the Umoja Festival, a celebration of unity, culture, and heritage offers a great experience filled with vibrant performances and activities. Meanwhile, our very own Fayetteville Woodpeckers will be hosting home games against the Kannapolis Cannonballers at Segra Stadium. Themed nights like Harry Potter Night, Space Night, and Alzheimer's Awareness Night promise entertainment for all ages.

If you are into the Nerd Market vibe, don't forget to take advantage of Fourth Friday in Downtown Fayetteville. Any of the downtown attractions can be complemented with a stroll through our lively Social District with friends and family, enjoying extended hours from our local shops, galleries, and eateries while you sip a beverage of your choice. This is the perfect opportunity to experience the best of our city’s nightlife and local culture.

With so much happening across Fayetteville, there’s no better time to explore all the amazing activities our city has to offer. I hope to see you out enjoying our thriving community!

Best,

Douglas J. Hewett
