The Latest from Doug
I want to start out by thanking the entire team from across our City and County who controlled and maintained the fire that broke out near Shaw Mill Road this week. As the incident evolved Fayetteville Fire Department units alternated with partners from the Fayetteville Police Department, NCDOT, North Carolina Forestry Service, American Red Cross Highlands Chapter, Cumberland County Emergency Services, Cumberland County Fire Chief's Association, Wade Community Fire Department and Phillip's Towing Service, all who supported with supplies and equipment. I applaud the partnerships we have formed throughout the county and state. Who knows what could have happened without the dedicated and devoted professionals within our department and this team.
A special thanks to Chief Hill for the outstanding work his team does to keep Fayetteville safe and if you know someone that would be a good addition to our team, we are always in search of the next generation of leadership for our Fire Department.
This month’s Fourth Friday hosted by Cool Springs Downtown is taking place tonight from 6-9 p.m. in the heart of Downtown Fayetteville on Anderson Street. This month's celebration will highlight The Nerd Market and The District Vibe. You will be able to immerse yourself in a new world surrounded by vendors offering comic books, memorabilia, and captivating fantasy, comic and anime art. Stay connected and get more information by following the official Fourth Friday event page on Facebook.
I’m also excited about the Umoja Festival is this Saturday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Seabrook Park, 708 Langdon Street in Fayetteville. It is intended to celebrate unity, African and African American culture and heritage in our community. I hope this event can serve as an opportunity for people to come together, learn about different cultures, and celebrate diversity.
Finally, I know public safety is always a conversation throughout our wonderful City. I know we can come together as one to improve our communities across the City. I want us to lean on and support one another, to help guide and mentor our youth into adulthood. I love this community and want to make sure it’s the best place to work, live and recreate. I proudly serve you alongside of City Council and we strive to continue to make our City a safer place for everyone so we can enjoy all Fayetteville has to offer.
Best regards,
Doug
