We’re excited to announce that nominations are now open for the 2024 Community Awards hosted by the Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations. Throughout Fayetteville and Cumberland County, we do our best to find a way to help each other, care for one another and try to always go the extra mile to help those in need. Many in our community contribute to the greater good each day, truly embodying the spirt of our “Can Do” Carolina. These awards aim to recognize those individuals and organizations continuously engaging and promoting positive human relation. Do you know someone or an organization that consistently goes above and beyond to lift others up? Nominate them by Jan. 17 for a chance to put the spotlight on their incredible efforts! There are nine categories. The Community Awards will take place on Feb. 15, at the Botanical Gardens and tickets are available for $35 at the Human Relations Office in Festival Park Plaza located at 225 Ray Ave.
The Fayetteville Next Advisory Commission will be hosting an Ugly Sweater Holiday Social at Segra Stadium on Dec. 21 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. This networking event is targeted to those who are 23 to 39 years old and will give people a chance to meet new people, see the holiday lights at the stadium, and learn about the commission. Tickets are $25.
As we approach the holiday season, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of the upcoming city closures. City of Fayetteville Government offices will be closed on Dec. 25 and 26, as well as Jan. 1 to observe the Christmas and New Year Holidays. Additional schedules for the Police Department, Solid Waste Division, Fayetteville Regional Airport, Fayetteville Area System of Transit, and Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation can be found here.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I encourage each of you to take a well-deserved break, unwind and spend quality time with loved ones. This time of year is about creating precious memories, reflecting on the past year, and embracing the joy that surrounds us. Whether it's a stroll through the Social District in downtown, attending festive events around the City, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the season, I hope you find moments of peace and happiness.
Best,
Douglas J. Hewett
