The Latest from Doug
This week, we welcomed our newly elected city councilmembers and welcomed back our reelected Mayor Mitch Colvin and city councilmembers. On Wednesday, our city leaders officially took their oath of offices, ready to continue to move our city forward. Following the inauguration ceremony, the city council elected District 1 Councilwoman Kathy Jensen to serve as mayor pro tem. I am eager and looking forward to collaborating with council as we strive to make positive strides for our city.
We take pride in the various holiday traditions that make us unique. Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, started yesterday. Hanukkah is a time to not only gather with loved ones, but a time to share joy, peace and prosperity. I would like to extend warm wishes to our Jewish community and to all residents who observe this special holiday. May your Hanukkah be filled with love and happiness.
I hope the spirit of joy and togetherness is taking over our city, transforming Fayetteville into a haven of festive cheer. I extend my warmest wishes to you all as get closer to the end of the year, recognizing how unity that make our community truly special.
In that spirit, the Fayetteville Woodpecker’s Holiday lights starts tonight. The Holiday Lights will run nightly until December 23. It includes tens of thousands of holiday lights around the stadium, with displays on the concourse and a path of walk-through lights on the warning track of the field. Each night will bring a different theme, including fireworks, Christmas-themed characters, and more. Tickets are on sale.
I would like to take a moment to appreciate the unwavering dedication of our city employees and invite you or someone you know to apply to join our team.
Finally, in the spirit of community, let's look out for one another and share in the joy of the holidays. Enthusiasm is contagious and contributes to the vibrancy of Fayetteville. I look forward to making this season truly magical.
Best,
Douglas J. Hewett
