The Latest from Doug
Our firefighters across the City play a vital role in helping our communities stay safe and secure. Like any other career field, providing training opportunities is important and ensures that our firefighters are up-to-date with fire safety trends and best practices.
Recently, firefighters from across the state including a few of our own firefighters participated in a fire investigation training course at the Fayetteville Fire Training Center and FTCC–Cumberland County Fire & Rescue Training Center hosted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Participants were able to get hands-on training and learn about fire science, investigation methodology, and building systems.
Starting today and throughout next week, our firefighters will be participating in live fire training at the FTCC–Cumberland County Fire & Rescue Training Center. This training teaches them how to safely and effectively fight fires in a controlled setting. It also provides them with skills on how to think clearly and act calmly in an emergency.
Although they are receiving training throughout the year, they are also providing training to our residents throughout the City. You may see our firefighters at a community event or a school training people on how to properly use a fire extinguisher or do hands-only CPR. They are always actively involved in the community providing safety tips and training.
To celebrate recent promotions, retirements, and achievements within the Fayetteville Fire Department, they will be hosting a banquet on February 16 at 6:30 P.M. at Segra Stadium. They will be announcing the Firefighter of the Year and Rescue Responder of the Year to two individuals who have well-earned those honors.
I also want to recognize the $9,530 Motiva First Responders Grant the fire department just received. This grant will assist with purchasing new equipment to improve the Hazardous Materials team’s response to railcar chemical leaks.
I personally want to thank our firefighters for their commitment and dedication to our residents, business owners, and their colleagues as they start each shift not knowing what the day will hold.
Best,
Doug
