The Latest from Doug
As we move past Valentine's Day, I invite you to our wonderful downtown, as the vibe continues to offer perfect opportunities for couples to spend quality time together. There are ample opportunities to walk around and enjoy each other’s company while having your choice of wine in our Social District.
If you are a history buff, the Fayetteville History Museum is a treasure trove of local lore, including a current feature, the fascinating Historical Orange Street School Display. Our museum offers a window into Fayetteville's past for all ages, from detailed artifacts to engaging exhibits about our community's rich heritage. Don’t forget, on Saturdays, there is a market filled with Fayetteville vendors ready to do business with you.
Finally, our Economic and Community Development department held the first of four public meetings this week to compile resident feedback on the Annual HUD Grant Actions Plan. Residents' insight will assist with designing the programs and services offered with the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds that the City will receive on behalf of low and moderate-income residents.
In addition to CDBG funds, the plan also describes how the City intends to use HOME Investment Partnership and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS funds for the 2023 program year. Input will be compiled and submitted to the Fayetteville Redevelopment Commission, the Fayetteville City Council, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Upcoming public meetings scheduled:
- Massey Hill Recreation Center, February 13 at 7 PM
- Smith Recreation Center, February 22 at 6 PM
- Westover Recreation Center, February 28 at 6 PM
- EE Miller Recreation Center, March 7 at 7 PM
I encourage you to join us at one of the three remaining opportunities to share your opinions.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Best,
Douglas J. Hewett
