Last night, the Fayetteville City Council had a productive joint meeting with our state delegation, highlighting the strong partnerships that drive our community forward. Mayor Mitch Colvin presented the 2025 State Action Agenda, emphasizing key priorities that reflect our shared commitment to improving the quality of life, public safety, infrastructure, and economic development in Fayetteville.
Among other priorities discussed were vital funding requests for homeless support initiatives, including emergency shelter operations, as well as Parks and Recreation amenities like the Cape Fear River Park Trail Extension Phase II. The Council also highlighted the need for a regional public safety training center, alongside funding for mental health co-response programs and community-based violence interruption efforts which coincide with the Office of Community Safety efforts our City has been making.
Our delegation’s support is critical as we continue to seek legislative changes for firefighter cancer benefits, recruit and retain law enforcement personnel, and address housing challenges with affordable housing opportunities. Additionally, we advocated for state funding to support stormwater infrastructure projects and implement pedestrian safety improvements.
This meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between local and state leaders in achieving our community’s goals. The delegation showed great interest in the topics discussed and offered valuable insights and dialogue on these topics and we are confident that with continued partnership and advocacy, Fayetteville will remain on a strong path toward growth, safety, and prosperity for all residents.
Best,
Douglas J. Hewett
