City Manager's Report

January 10, 2025 | FayettevilleNC.gov

The Latest from Doug

As Winter Storm Cora approaches, it’s essential to prepare for the potential impacts. The City of Fayetteville has made several adjustments to services to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. Solid Waste operations were slightly adjusted with yard waste collection not being picked up but will resume as normal next week.

Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) services will conclude at 5 p.m. today and will be delayed until 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, and Sunday, Jan. 12 and then operate until their regular closing times. For route details and updates, please visit RideFAST.net.

Emergency services, including police and fire, are fully prepared and on high alert to respond to any weather-related incidents. This storm will bring freezing rain, snow, ice, and dangerously low temperatures, so taking proactive steps is crucial. I urge you to stay off the roads whenever possible to minimize the risk of accidents during icy and snowy conditions. If driving is necessary, please exercise extreme caution, as driving at posted speeds can be hazardous when roads are slick and carry a winter weather kit in your car, including blankets, a shovel, and extra clothing.

Make sure you are winter-ready by having an emergency kit stocked with essentials like food, water, flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit. Stay informed by monitoring local weather updates and alerts from trusted sources like the National Weather Service. Remember, it's also important to check on neighbors, particularly the elderly or those with special needs, to ensure their safety.

For the latest updates on city services and important safety information, please visit FayettevilleNC.gov or follow the city’s social media channels. Let’s work together to stay safe and prepared during this winter weather event.

Best,

Douglas J. Hewett
