I want to take a moment to recognize the tragic airplane accident that took place in Washington, D.C. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this devastating event. In times of loss, we are reminded of the importance of community, compassion, and supporting one another. Let us keep those impacted in our thoughts and extend kindness wherever we can.
February marks the start of Black History Month, a time to celebrate the rich heritage, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history and within our own community. Fayetteville is home to a strong and vibrant Black community, and we honor the leaders, visionaries, and everyday heroes who continue to shape our city’s future. I encourage everyone to take time this month to learn, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations that promote unity and understanding.
Community engagement is a vital part of keeping Fayetteville a safe and welcoming place for all. Across the city, several Community Watch groups are meeting this month, offering an opportunity for residents to stay informed, connect with their neighbors, and play an active role in enhancing public safety. I encourage everyone to get involved in these meetings and be part of the ongoing effort to strengthen our neighborhoods. You can find dates and locations for these meetings by visiting here.
Let’s continue to support one another, celebrate our diverse community, and work toward a safer and more connected Fayetteville.
Best,
Douglas J. Hewett
