It provides you with alerts and information regarding severe weather, evacuations, protective actions, and other severe incidents that may occur.
In light of our ongoing efforts to enhance storm preparedness and resilience, we are proud to announce that we were recently awarded the 2024 Association of State Floodplain Managers James Lee Witt Local Award for Excellence for our Watershed Master Planning Program. This prestigious award recognizes Fayetteville’s significant contribution to building a more adaptable and resilient community in the face of flooding and climate challenges.
Our Watershed Master Plan represents a comprehensive approach to understanding and mitigating city-wide flooding. The plan has laid the groundwork for successful grant opportunities, such as the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant awarded in 2023 for the $20 million Russell-Person Street Bridge and Stream Enhancement project. This strategic planning effort has allowed us to identify watershed projects, address existing issues, and prepare for future challenges by integrating growth and development plans.
I want to recognize and thank our staff members who has played a role in the development and implementation of the Watershed Master Plan. Their hard work and ongoing proactive efforts have brought unprecedented levels of federal and state support to infrastructure needs that mitigate the risks from storm-related flooding.
