I invite everyone to the Fayetteville 3rd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee Celebration happening this weekend. Festivities start Saturday at 1 p.m. and last until 9 p.m. at Festival Park. Performances by two-time Grammy-nominated artist Pierce Freelon and Skip Marley, the grandson of Bob Marley will give you an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Juneteenth with music. The jubilee will also feature an art show and live paintings, book fair, a traveling exhibition, food trucks, and a 5k fun run. Also, if you are a history buff, you can even take a ride on the History Trolley tour.
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting a Small Business Town Hall with the Small Business Administration at FTCC. Mayor Mitch Colvin's involvement really underscored our commitment to fostering small business growth and support within our community. The engaging discussions and valuable insights shared during the panel discussion will undoubtedly help drive small businesses forward. If you missed it, visit the City’s YouTube page to watch the discussion.
On June 1st, twelve dedicated line workers from Fayetteville’s Public Works Commission (PWC) travelled to the Navajo Nation to volunteer as part of the Light Up Navajo initiative. This is the second year PWC has participated in this effort, working to bring electricity to homes that have never had it. I am proud of the dedication and service of our PWC crews. Their work not only brings light to homes but also hope and improved quality of life for many families. The PWC team will return home this weekend. You can read more about this effort here.
As Father’s Day approaches, I would like to wish all the amazing father’s and father figures in our community a Happy Father’s Day. Whether you’re a new dad, a seasoned dad or a mentor who has stepped into the role, your love and support to those looking up to you are valued and appreciated.
As we celebrate events and achievements throughout the City, let’s take a moment to reflect on the importance of our community, the service of our friends and neighbors we see each day, and collaboration we strive to continue to improve Fayetteville.
Best,
Douglas J. Hewett
