City Manager's Report

June 23, 2023 | FayettevilleNC.gov

The Latest from Doug

I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and high spirits as you dive into the weekend. As your City Manager, I am pleased to bring you some important updates and exciting news that will positively impact our community.

We are delighted to announce that the City Council recently approved our fiscal year 2024 budget. Our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents is reflected in this budget, while ensuring responsible financial management. The approved budget does include a voter approved property tax increase. Residents voted in overwhelming support for the Fayetteville Forward Bonds to improve the quality of life for residents by addressing needs related to safety and security. Property tax will increase by 4 cents instead of the initial 7 cents. You can read more about the budget by reading the news release: Fayetteville Adopts FY 2024 Budget.

Our phenomenal solid waste department services more than 15,000 residents daily. To provide the best services to our residents, City Council heard the recommendations provided by the solid waste department and approved a solid waste ordinance change in January. We encourage all residents to familiarize themselves with the new ordinance and actively participate in our collective efforts to better our services for everyone who receives services from the department. The ordinance will go into effect on July 1. You can learn more about the new ordinance by reading Updated Solid Waste Ordinance goes into effect July 1 or watch this quick video to learn what you should know about the changes.

One last important update I would like to share is beginning July 1, the Fayetteville Area System of Transit will reinstate fares for its services after suspending fares in 2020 due to the pandemic. Riders can purchase passes at the Transit Center, 505 Franklin St. or at a Carlie C’s. For detailed information about fares and passes, please visit: www.RideFAST.net.

It’s now officially summer so be sure to check out our local pools and splashpads. Find your nearest pool at: FCPR.us.

As always, I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Best,

Doug

City Update: Solid Waste Changes

In order to provide the best service to our residents, the City's Solid Waste Division will be making a few changes that will take effect on July 1, 2023.

Each household can set out a maximum of two carts, green or brown for household trash. One blue cart for recycling, every other week, and a maximum of ten containerized items for yard waste.

There are multiple ways to set out your yard waste for pickup. You can use a green or brown cart as well as any 32-gallon can with a lid. You can also place your yard waste in plastic bags OR you can bundle or tie your brush together. Make sure all containers or bundles weigh less than 50 pounds.
