The Latest from Doug

The Fourth of July commemorates the birth of the United States as an independent nation and celebrates the principles upon which it was founded. It’s a time for family gatherings, barbecues, picnics, and fireworks, creating cherished memories and fostering a sense of camaraderie. I encourage you to partake in a few festivities that are happening in our downtown district. Make it a FAYcation and join us for an evening block party with DJ Kool, games and fun on Maxwell Street, or you can even take a moment to relax and enjoy the company of loved ones to the magical sounds of the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra.

There is something for everyone to enjoy! By the way, there will be a fireworks show towards Festival Park taking place around 9 p.m. to end the night. But I would be remiss if I did not mention that Independence Day is a reminder of the hard-fought struggle for freedom. In our own community, we have a small, unassuming location which played a crucial role in the American Revolution. The site I’m referencing is where residents of Fayetteville signed the "Liberty Point Resolves" in 1775. It serves as a powerful symbol of unity and as a reminder of the courage and determination displayed by the early patriots who paved the way for the birth of a nation founded on the principles of liberty, equality, justice and self-governance.

This weekend, people from all walks of life come together to celebrate our Nation. It is a day to express gratitude for the rights and freedoms we enjoy, as well as to recognize the ongoing struggle to preserve and expand those rights for all people.

Through parades, fireworks, community events, and civic engagement opportunities, I hope people are inspired to actively participate and engage with our local government, exercise their right to vote, express their opinions, and contribute to the betterment of our community.

I hope everyone has a great week and a Happy 4th of July

Best,

Doug
