City Manager's Report

The Latest from Doug

Growth isn’t just about new buildings or infrastructure — it’s about people. It’s about progress, opportunity, and the pride we take in seeing our community move forward. Prosperity means more than economic success; it means seeing our residents thrive, our neighborhoods strengthen, and our city become a place where everyone can find their path. And milestones remind us just how far we’ve come.

This week, we celebrated one of the most meaningful milestones of all: Graduation. I would like to personally extend my congratulations and a heartfelt shout-out to the Class of 2025! You’ve worked hard, stayed the course, and reached an achievement that marks the beginning of something new. We’re proud of you, and we’re excited about the future you’ll help build here in Fayetteville and beyond.

As we celebrate individual achievements, we’re also looking ahead at what’s next for our city. With the City Council having wrapped up its final budget work sessions and the required public hearing on May 27, we’re now in the home stretch toward formal adoption. The recommended FY 2026 Operating Budget, which reflects the Council’s strategic priorities and investments and the needs of our community. Every year, the budget is one of the clearest ways we show progress and growth. It’s how we move from ideas to action. And this upcoming year’s budget will continue to move us in the right direction.

Lastly, I encourage you to join us for Fayetteville 2050, presented by Mayor Mitch Colvin, on Tuesday, June 10 at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall. Mayor Colvin will share a 25-year vision for Fayetteville’s continued growth, highlighting where we’ve been, where we’re going, and how we’ll get there together. The event is open to the public and will be live streamed on FayTV.net and Spectrum Channel 7.

As we celebrate important milestones and plan for the future, one thing is clear—Fayetteville is growing, and we’re growing together. Every decision we make, every investment, and every success story brings us closer to the kind of city we all want to call home. A place where families feel supported, businesses can thrive, and there are real opportunities for everyone to live, work, and play.

Best,

Dr. Douglas J. Hewett
