City Manager's Report

September 1, 2023 | FayettevilleNC.gov

The Latest from Doug

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by Hurricane Idalia and are thankful that it moved quickly through our area, sparing us from significant damage. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our City employees who took the necessary precautions to ensure we could respond rapidly if needed. While I’m grateful it didn’t come to that, I’m also appreciative that we had an opportunity to exercise our response systems. With the hurricane season ongoing, it’s crucial to remain vigilant and prepared for potential future storms.

With the storm passing and dry weather upon us for the holiday weekend, I hope everyone has a chance to unwind from the first week of school and take advantage of any deals and steals at our local businesses.

It’s that time of the year again – the Cumberland County Fair is back and starts today. The Greater Fayetteville Chamber will host a ribbon cutting at 4:45 p.m. and the gates will open at 5 p.m. The fair will be at the Crown Complex until September 10. From exciting rides to delicious food, live entertainment, and numerous of activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

On another note, the Fayetteville Police Department continues to make our community safer and this weekend they have an event for KIA and Hyundai owners from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Manna Church located at 5117 Cliffdale Road. They have teamed up with KIA and Hyundai to provide critical updates for all 2013 through 2022 traditional start, not push start, Kia and Hyundai models. This initiative serves as a preventative measure to protect these vehicles from theft.

A week from today, we are hosting our All-America City Block Party Celebration on the Festival Park Promenade. We are going to celebrate together our incredible victory in winning the prestigious All-America City Award for the fourth time! Please come out and celebrate with us. We'll have music, games, and ice cream to enjoy from 5 to 7 p.m. Then you can swing over the Segra Stadium to catch the Woodpeckers game!

Best regards,

Doug

Steven Chadduck's Journey to Homeownership

We are thrilled to share the inspiring story of Steven Chadduck, the first recipient of the Purchase Assistance Program through our City's Economic and Community Development Department.

Back in October 2022, Steven embarked on the path to buy his dream home. With the assistance of a grant, he managed to make a down payment on his new home by combining it with a secondary loan. As a disabled veteran, he overcame the challenges of acquiring a home, including closing costs and down payment, which can be daunting for anyone. Previously, his family had been renting, but now they have a place to call their own.

Steven expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the City of Fayetteville for helping bring his family closer together. The impact of homeownership is evident as his grandkids are now living with them, creating unforgettable memories under one roof.

Steven also expressed how beneficial the first-time homebuyers class was, providing him with invaluable information about the home buying process and home maintenance. It gave him a better understanding of homeownership, making his journey smoother.

Steven's dream became a reality in January when he closed on his new home. With 25 years as a resident of Fayetteville, he is deeply rooted in the community. As a proud business owner, Steven continues contributing to the local economy and thriving professionally.

Join us in celebrating Steven's success as a first-time homebuyer! Let his story inspire others to pursue their dreams of homeownership and know that our Economic and Community Development Department is here to support you every step of the way. Together, we build stronger communities!
