We are excited to celebrate with our community to commemorate our incredible victory in winning the prestigious All-America City Award. To celebrate this success, we’re throwing a block party today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Festival Park Plaza on the promenade. This event is FREE and promises an evening filled with music, fun, ice cream. By the way, we're giving away FREE shirts and pins, but we have a limited supply. Together, we can relish in the collective spirit that defines our community's success!
Following the celebration, be sure to head over to Segra Stadium to catch the Woodpeckers in action against the Charleston Riverdogs. These athletes have shown incredible dedication throughout this season. Let’s come together and fill the stands and show our support during their final games this weekend.
I want to congratulate our Police Activity League Boxers Champions, Javeon Taylor and Kollen Boone for their big win last weekend at the Back-to-School Boxing Bash in Harnett County. What’s even more exciting is that Javeon is set to represent Fayetteville in Colorado from Sept. 9 – 16, as he competes in the USA Boxing Last Chance Qualifier. This is a significant step towards qualifying for the US Olympic boxing trails, and we couldn’t be prouder.
The success of Fayetteville PAL Boxers shines a spotlight on the incredible work being done by the Fayetteville Police Department’s youth engagement and athletic development program. Not only do these young boxers bring pride to their city, but they also serve as role models, inspiring other youth to pursue their passions and hone their skills.
Starting Monday, the 16th Annual Field of Honor will be on display at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum, filling our City with immense pride. Since its establishment in 2005, the North Carolina Field of Honor has become a cherished tradition in downtown Fayetteville. Each flag in the Field of Honor bears a unique story and carries a tag that identifies both the sponsor and the honoree, creating a poignant tapestry of heroism. This display stands as a symbol of respect and gratitude, honoring all those who currently serve, those who have served, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation's freedom.
As I come to a close, let’s remember the significance of that tragic day, September 11 and the ultimate courage and sacrifice shown by countless individuals and the families of those who lost loved ones that fateful day.
Best regards,
Doug
