UPCOMING CITY EVENTS

4/5 Paper Shredding Day - The Magic Shred truck will be at Pilot Knoll Park on Saturday, April 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. This free event is for Highland Village residents only. Business shredding is not allowed. Please have your ID ready to present at the gatehouse.


4/12 Easter Egg Hunt - Join the City of Highland Village and the Easter Bunny for our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 12. Egg hunt starts at 10 a.m. sharp! Bring your camera for pictures with the Easter Bunny.


Summer Camp Highland Village - The City of Highland Village, in partnership with Kidventure, is hosting Camp Highland Village at Doubletree Ranch Park from June 2 to August 1. This eight-week summer day camp is open to children aged 3–5 (Discoverers) and students entering 1st through 6th grade (Explorers). highlandvillage.org/334/Summer-Camp

PROJECT UPDATES

Public Works Department

2024 Asphalt Overlay and Pilot Knoll Park RV Circle Overlay - This project is almost complete. Only some cleanup and minor punch list items remain. All of the areas that required re-paving have been completed. This project includes the overlay of Remington Terrace, Village Tree Drive, Orchid Hill Lane, and the RV Loop inside Pilot Knoll Park. 


Force Main Replacement Project - This project is well underway by the contractor Four Star Excavating. They have been working on Lift Station #2 along Highland Shores Blvd. They have been working in the lift station vault for the past couple of weeks. This work included replacing some valves and piping. Once this work is complete, they will begin the other part of this project in Castlewood Subdivision.


24”/27” Sanitary Sewer Line Condition Assessment Project - The Contractor, AIMS, held a preconstruction meeting for this project. They will begin work on it probably next week.

Parks Department

Robot Painter Training - The parks department recently purchased a robot painter and is learning how to use it for athletic field maintenance.

EMPLOYEE HIGHLIGHTS

Ken Heerman Retirement - Ken Heerman, Finance Director and Assistant City Manager, retired on February 28 after 34 years of dedicated service. Ken began with the City in 1991 as the Assistant Finance Director and was promoted to Data Processing Manager/Assistant Finance Director in 1995. In 1998, Ken was promoted to Finance Director and then to Assistant City Manager/Finance Director in 2010. During his tenure, Ken was pivotal in guiding Highland Village through unprecedented economic growth, including the FM 2499/FM 407 commercial corridor. Under his leadership, the City received recognition and awards across all service levels, including the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for 20 years and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 31 consecutive years from the Government Finance Officers Association. The City also received a AAA Bond Rating as a result of Ken’s guidance, with strong financial policies and excellent financial planning to guide Highland Village well into the future. “Ken has provided exemplary service to the City; his ability to present City finances clearly benefitted Council and our residents. He managed the City's finances in a fiscally responsible manner and guided us to the highest bond rating while setting the stage for our future,” stated Mayor Charlotte Wilcox. “Ken has served the City with integrity, scrupulous care, and a deep passion for ensuring the success of Highland Village. We wish Ken well in his retirement and thank him for his dedication to the City.”
