Hello!

The Napa Town & Country Fair has begun and the American Canyon 4-H Club is well-represented this year. Tomorrow at 9 AM is the Junior Livestock Auction – please come out support these kids for all their hard work (see below for more)!

I’m a big kid at heart, and it's been such a fun, laid-back summer here in American Canyon that I never want it to end. So it’s with a touch of melancholy that we must now transition back to our “normal routine”. Please note, SCHOOL STARTS NEXT WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15th! This means there will be more pedestrians and vehicles back on our roads and throughout the community. Parents, please Plan Ahead, SLOW DOWN, and Be Patient. And most importantly, put your phones down and stay alert!

We are excited to see what the new school year brings and want to emphasize that our schools – particularly American Canyon High School - are wonderful, inclusive, and have very safe campus environments. The City is proud of our continued partnership with Napa Valley Unified School District and our shared goal of ensuring safety on and off campuses in American Canyon.

Construction Updates
In a few weeks the City will undertake a construction project to close the sidewalk gap on Donaldson Way between SR29 and Carolyn Drive. This project will take approximately ten weeks to complete. The goal of the Donaldson Way Sidewalk Gap Closure Project is to provide continuous pedestrian facilities from the American Canyon High School on Newell Drive to the Middle School on Benton Way by constructing sidewalks, creating Class III bicycle lanes, and reducing vehicle speeds through the neighborhood by implementing traffic calming measures.

The latest update on this project and other construction activity around town is provided every Friday on our website.

American Canyon 4-H
A group of our local youth have been preparing since April for this week. They are participating in the Junior Livestock and Small Animal Exhibits at the Napa Town & Country Fair. Their hard work is paying off! They and the animals they've raised, ranging from chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, and rabbits, have received numerous 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and multiple champion awards. A few of the older members of the club were interviewed on KVYN radio about their experiences. Some of the members also sold out their baked goods in the Country Store bake sales.

Many of them will sell the animals they've raised in tomorrow's live auction. You can support them by going to the auction to cheer them on, or to bid either for your own use or to donate to a good cause. The money these kids raise help support their future 4-H activities. The live auction starts at 9 AM on Saturday, August 11th at the Napa Town & Country Fair.

We are proud of you all - Haley Konoval, Kayla Maynard, Ashley Maynard, Austin Malinowski, Alicia Malinowski, Michael Roberts, Sofia Ramos Bennett, Liliana Ramos Bennett, and Lucas Ramos Bennett. Sign ups for 4-H begin in September, contact Pam Philips for information.
