Opportunities to Get Involved In Large City Initiatives & Projects Under Development

The City has a set of large initiatives and projects under development, and the community is invited to provide feedback at several upcoming City Council meetings. The agenda items include discussions on the draft Historic Context Statement & Survey, which will shape Coronado's historic review process for properties on November 21; the review of the design plans for the Cays Park Master Plan on December 5; and potential renovations to the Coronado Public Library’s Winn Room at a special City Council meeting on December 12 at 4:00 pm.
Community input is important to these discussions. Residents can check the City Council agendas when they are published online or follow the City's social media for updates.

Provide Your Input on the Draft Historic Context Statement & Survey Next Week

City staff will be updating the City Council on the community input received on the draft Historic Context Statement and Survey at the next council meeting on Tuesday, November 21 at 4:00 pm. This project is important because it will guide the preservation of historically significant properties in the city. It will also provide clarity to property owners as they consider making modifications to their properties.
Residents are encouraged to provide their feedback at the City Council meeting next week. The draft document and meeting information are available on the City’s website.

Free Sandbags Available For Residents During Rainy Season

The region's wet weather season is here and City crews are proactively preparing for the forecasted storm events. Residents can also prepare with sandbags if they are needed for their property. Free sandbags are available self-serve in four locations throughout the city.

Are you looking for some holiday gift ideas? The Friends of the Library are hosting a Holiday Book & Gift sale on Saturday, November 18 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Coronado Public Library.
Shop from a wide selection of items including audiobooks, DVDs, holiday gifts and cards, and books for all ages. The proceeds from the sale are used to help fund the library’s programs.

Unleash your creativity this holiday season. Register for the John D. Spreckels Center's Digital Photobook workshop on Thursday, November 30, from 10:00 am to noon, and discover the magic of creating photobooks. With the helping hand of Tech Tutor Jim Fader, learn to select, organize, and design photos from your smart phone into a book to share.
The workshop will demonstrate how to navigate websites that create photobooks. Ordering and payment are the responsibility of the attendees. Register online or contact the Spreckels Center at 619-522-7343. Take advantage of this chance to give the gift of memories!

Community Invited to Naval Base Coronado Resident Meeting on November 20 at City Hall

Naval Base Coronado will host a Resident Meeting at 3:30 pm on Monday, November 20 after their regular Naval Complexes Coordinating Group meeting with the City in the City Council Chambers.
The public is invited to attend both meetings and have the opportunity to learn about project updates and meet the Naval Base Coronado's military leaders.

Next Week's Thanksgiving Holiday & Trash Schedule
|
|
|

|
The City of Coronado will observe next week's Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. City offices, the John D. Spreckels Center and the Coronado Public Library will be closed. Check the Recreation website for the full schedule of programs and services for the upcoming week.
There will be a one-day delay in residential trash and recycling collection for Thursday & Friday customers only next week. The City wishes everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday!

New Classes for Youth Volleyball & Little Dribblers Basketball

Get ready for a double dose of fun with Recreation's new Youth Volleyball & Little Dribblers Basketball classes. The Youth Volleyball classes offer a fantastic chance to learn the fundamentals in a non-competitive and enjoyable setting. The classes are for budding volleyball players in third to eighth grades. No experience is needed.
For younger athletes ages three to five years, the Little Dribblers Basketball program focuses on age-appropriate basketball skills. Participants will catch, pass, dribble, and shoot hoops, regardless of motor skill levels. The classes begin December 4 and continue for five weeks. Register now and don’t miss the chance to kick off the new year with active and engaging youth programs.

Coronado Holiday Parade & Tree Lighting

|
|
|
The holiday season is approaching, and the Coronado Chamber of Commerce will present the 48th Annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting on Friday, December 1, starting at 6:00 pm. Line the streets and be part of the magic of the season as the parade winds its way along Orange Avenue beginning at 7th Street and looping around at RH Dana & Adella.
When the parade ends, the Tree Lighting Ceremony of the Rotary Plaza tree will be illuminated with over 18,000 twinkling lights – which is over two miles, the approximate length of the Coronado Bay Bridge! Santa Claus will lead the countdown and set the tree aglow, officially marking the start of the festive season.

Douglas Preston
Meet author Douglas Preston on Thursday, December 7 at 7:00 pm in the Winn Room. The author will discuss and sign his new book The Lost Tomb: And Other Real-Life Stories of Bones, Burials, and Murder. Mr. Preston was a writer and editor for the American Museum of Natural History.
