Community News & Updates
Public Safety Open House set for Sunday, Oct. 9
The City welcomes the community from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, to its annual Public Safety Open House. City Firefighters, Lifeguards and Police Officers will close off the streets around the main fire house and Police Department for the free event. 
Coronado Cays Park Master Plan Update

The City Council this week voted to issue a request for proposals for consultant services for the Coronado Cays Park Master Plan project. The City is restarting this important project to have a more specific scope of work and expectations for community engagement. The master plan will present a long-range vision for the park that can be implemented over time. 
'The Knot' sculpture dedication set for Oct. 19

A ceremony is set for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, to dedicate a sculpture recently installed at Promenade Park on Glorietta Bay. The community is invited to join the family of the artist and other arts enthusiasts for this free event. 
Coronado Library hosts the 2022 San Diego Writers Festival
The Coronado Public Library will host this year’s San Diego Writers Festival on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Library is a partner, along with the Memoir Writers Association and Warwick’s bookstore. The event is free and open to the public. 

Halloween events at Spreckels Park, Library, Spreckels Center

Are you ready for Halloween? Recreation and Golf Services and the Library have some family-friendly activities planned. Halloween Happening at Spreckels Park, a magic show at the Library and Halloween Bash at the Spreckels Center are planned. Columbus Day holiday schedule 2022

The City of Coronado will observe the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, Oct.10, and reminds residents and businesses that some municipal facilities will remain open and some will close. 
City announces Employee of the Quarter: Martin Morales

Tree Trimmer Martin Morales has been selected as the recipient of the City of Coronado Employee of the Quarter Award for the third quarter of 2022. 
Rideshare Week is Oct. 3-9

Pledge to "Rideshare for Clean Air" and carpool, vanpool, bike, walk or transit during Rideshare Week. Pledging is a free and easy way to demonstrate your commitment to reducing your environmental impact. Incorporating rideshare into your daily routine is one small change that helps positively impact air quality in the San Diego region in big way.
Mosquito abatement a concern; residents, county can help
Three invasive Aedes mosquitos that are not native to California have been detected in San Diego. Coronado residents may have noticed more bites. Here's what you can do to prevent breeding and stop getting bit.
Election Update
Voter information pamphlets are on the way to San Diego County’s 1.9 million registered voters for the Nov. 8 Statewide General Election. 
Maintenance work closes Golf Course to play until Oct. 8

Maintenance work for the Coronado Golf Course began this week and will continue through the week of Monday, Oct. 10. The Golf Course is closed to play through Friday, Oct. 7, and will reopen starting Saturday, Oct. 8. Work, however, will continue the week of Oct. 10 with overseeding tees and collars.
Community Fall Cleanup set for Oct. 17-21
The Community Fall Cleanup is scheduled the week of Oct. 17-21 and will occur on regularly scheduled residential curbside collection days.

Upcoming events at the Library:

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by joining the Library for a lecture on Chicano art and artists, on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Winn Room. 

Cellist Robert Bui will play classic as well as contemporary cello pieces for the Library’s Autumn Concert Series at the Library on Friday, Oct. 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. Bui has won several prestigious competitions and plays for the La Jolla Symphony. 
Recreation & Golf Services
Upcoming Recreation events:
Immerse yourself in Papercraft Saturday. Paper artists, scrapbookers, card makers – this is for you. On Saturday, Oct. 15, the John D. Spreckels Center will host its first Papercraft Saturday. Spend a full day starting or working on a scrapbook, photo album, handmade cards or other paper crafts. Crafting begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 10 p.m. Cost is $20 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. 
The 2022 annual Turkey Coloring Contest is back. Children can submit an entry now. Sponsored by the Coronado Junior Woman’s Club, this holiday tradition, gets elementary school children in kindergarten through fifth grade composing their colorful Thanksgiving masterpieces.

This Halloween Cooking Class will stir up some spooky fun. There are two classes set for Monday, Oct. 10, a holiday, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Coronado Community Center. This new interactive seasonal seminar will have junior chefs, ages 6-13, chopping, mixing, basting and baking Halloween dishes.
