Weather Preparedness and Community Safety

Community Townhalls: Mark Your Calendars!

The City invites residents to join Public Safety leadership for a series of Community Town Halls focused on storm preparedness, potential El Niño impacts, and community safety.

These informative discussions will provide residents with important updates, practical preparedness tips, and available resources to help protect their homes and families during changing weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and learn how the City is preparing for the storm season ahead.

Community Town Hall Schedule:

  • November 5 at 5 p.m.
  • November 10 at 1 p.m.
  • November 19 at 5 p.m.
  • December 7 at 5 p.m.

Sandbags Now Available: Limit 10 Per Household

As of Thursday, October 29, sandbags are available at Bandel Park while supplies last. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household. Please take only what you need to ensure availability for all neighbors.

The City continues to monitor weather conditions and may temporarily close flood-prone areas, including Five Points (Pomona Avenue, Glorietta Boulevard and Tenth Street), when necessary for public safety.

Storm preparedness is a shared responsibility. Residents are encouraged to take additional precautions to protect their properties, as sandbags are just one part of preparing for weather events.

Sign Up for Everbridge Notifications

The City of Coronado is in the beginning process of transitioning from Nixle to Everbridge, a free notification system that provides important City updates, including emergency alerts, road closures, bridge updates, and weather-related information.

Residents must create an Everbridge account to continue receiving City notifications. Both systems will operate during a six-month transition period, with all City mass notifications moving exclusively to Everbridge beginning April 2027

Serve Your Community: Applications Now Open

The City of Coronado is currently accepting applications for the Mobility Committee, offering residents an opportunity to get involved and play an active role in shaping the future of our community.

Serving on a City board, committee, or commission is a meaningful way to share your perspective, contribute ideas, and help inform decisions that impact Coronado. Residents who are passionate about their community and interested in making a difference are encouraged to explore opportunities to serve.

Glenn Curtiss Park: We Want to Hear from You!

The City of Coronado is exploring potential improvements to Glenn Curtiss Park (Palm Park) through a grant opportunity offered by the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program.

Community participation is an important part of this process. Resident feedback will help identify priorities for future park enhancements and recreational opportunities, while informing the City’s grant application. Funding through this competitive grant program is not guaranteed.

Residents are encouraged to attend one or more upcoming community planning meetings to share their ideas, discuss potential improvements, and provide input on how Glenn Curtiss Park can better serve the needs of the community.

Make Halloween Less Wasteful

This Halloween, the City of Coronado encourages residents to reduce waste through simple, sustainable practices.

Place clean, unpainted pumpkins in your organics cart after removing all decorations, and consider reusing, swapping, or donating Halloween costumes.

Remember, candy wrappers and soft plastics belong in the trash, while empty hard plastic bottles and containers can go in the blue recycling bin.

Campaign Signs Recycling Event

A Campaign Sign Recycling Event will be available to the Coronado community on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to noon, in the parking lot immediately north of Coronado City Hall.

Hosted by Emerald Keepers, this event provides residents, candidates, and campaign volunteers an opportunity to properly recycle unwanted campaign signs and metal stakes following the November election. Volunteers will be on-site to assist with collecting and separating materials. Participants may enter the parking lot via Strand Way, preferably from the northbound lane.

A Morning with Heather Morris at the Coronado Public Library

Join the Library for a special morning with Heather Morris, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, as she discusses her newest novel, The Piano Teacher of Montparnasse on Tuesday, November 10 at 11 a.m. at the Coronado Public Library.

Known for bringing extraordinary stories of courage, resilience, and survival to millions of readers around the world, Morris now turns to Nazi-occupied Paris for a moving story inspired by real people and events.

The event will include a conversation with the author, audience Q&A, and book signing. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-seated, subject to availability.
