June 14, 2019
Greetings from your Fire Chief,

We are heading into Summer, which in our world here at the Fire Department is also known as “Fire Season.” To raise awareness of the importance of preparedness, you may see an uptick in emergency readiness communications. Recent fires throughout California loom in the back of all of our minds when the hills turn brown, and the heat rises. You no doubt have heard about PG&E’s “ Public Safety Power Shutdowns” which have evolved out of the necessity to help prevent an increased fire risk during specific weather conditions. To stay informed about the status of your electricity service, it is essential that all residents update their contact information with PG&E by visiting their website or calling (800) 743-5000.

The most important advice I can give you, as your Fire Chief, is “Be Ready,” for any emergency event that may disrupt our “normal” routines. Please take a moment to check out the information on our website to help you prepare for power outages, earthquakes, flooding, and any other disruption to the normal day-to-day life in our community. We ask that you plan to be as self-sufficient as possible for at least the first 72 hours after any large scale emergency. That is, unfortunately, a fact of life. The reality is that all Californians could be impacted by emergency events and need to be prepared with a plan and an emergency kit. We have linked a short video below with excellent tips on how to be prepared to take care of your family in such an event.

We would also like to invite you to join us on Saturday, June 29th from 10 AM – 1 PM at the Public Safety Building (911 Donaldson Way East) for the Ready AC Emergency Preparedness Event (see flyer below).
