March 15, 2019

Everyone – particularly our most vulnerable - deserves a clean, well-lighted place to call home.

At long last, the first residents of the Valley View Senior Housing Project are moving in! This is an exciting time because many of them are transitioning from conditions most of us could never fully comprehend. In one instance just last week, a Veteran was living in an encampment/shelter, and today, she has her own apartment and is doing very well.
Valley View is a blessing for those who need it most, and everyone involved has much to be proud of. So far, at least 9 of the eventual 70 units are finished and occupied, with more to come along the way. All units will eventually be occupied by income-qualified seniors, and a portion of the units will be set aside for veterans. There is a team assisting with the transition - if you would like to help these residents become acclimated to American Canyon, your support is best given as follows:

  • Gift cards in $25 and $50 increments for Safeway and Walmart can be mailed or dropped off between the hours of 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday, to Kathy Tejcka, Veterans Administration Senior Social Worker, 1 Natalie Lane, American Canyon, CA 94503
  • American Canyon Troop Support (read more below) is collecting quarters for laundromat services, laundry detergent, and new bathroom hand towels for veteran residents. They can be reached at
  • Inquiries about the availability of units, general questions, or businesses who would like to donate should call SAHA’s Community Engagement Manager, Jenny Tung, at (510) 809-2773

Next Tuesday’s (March 19th) Council meeting agenda is full of important topics such as housing policy, consideration of findings for denial of the appeal for the Bottoms Up Espresso, matters related to the annexation of Watson Lane, and committee assignments for the CASA Legislative Task Force. Please note we’ve moved the previously scheduled item related to the City’s Traffic Calming Program to the April 2nd Council meeting, and at that meeting, we will also hear an update on transportation projects (i.e., Devlin Rd., Green Island Rd., Newell Drive, and SR29 Mobility Plan).
