I recently made two significant appointments to our City’s executive team.
Bill Sherwood, Library Services Manager, has been appointed to serve as the Acting Library Director, effective February 4th. Bill was selected following the retirement of Library Director Theresa Mallon, who served the Public Library for over three decades. Bill’s calm demeanor and strong work ethic have supported our library system’s reputation as one of the most popular and highly utilized City services. I appreciate Bill’s many years of service and I have no doubt that his leadership will continue to be an asset to the organization and the excellent services being delivered to our residents.
Additionally, Luis Torres, Police Captain, has been appointed to serve as the Acting Police Chief, effective March 26th. He was selected following the previously announced retirement of current Police Chief Jeff Tudor, who has served the Department for 31 years. Captain Torres’ two decades of community-building and law enforcement experience in our city were key factors in his selection. I am confident in his ability to lead and he is committed to ensuring the department can meet current societal needs and continuing to build community trust, work with scarce resources, and implement new approaches to complex situations. Join me in congratulating Mr. Sherwood and Mr. Torres on their new positions.
Earlier this week, the State of California’s Stay-at-home order was also lifted. Please read San Leandro Next’s blog post on businesses that are now able to reopen. Alameda County remains in the Purple Tier in the Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
