San Leandro City Council, Residents, and City Employees –

Happy New Year!

I hope the holiday season was relaxing and beneficial to you during these difficult times.

Police Chief Jeff Tudor has announced his retirement, effective June 23, 2021. Chief Tudor commenced his 30-year career with the City of San Leandro in the Recreation Department and concluded it by serving as the police chief for the past four years. I appreciate Chief Tudor’s dedication to our community in which he was born and raised. Undoubtedly, Chief Tudor positively impacted the lives of thousands of people throughout his three decades of City service.

At their regular meeting this past Monday, the City Council recognized Library Director Theresa Mallon. Theresa retired after 33 years of service with the San Leandro Public Library. The library is one of the most popularly-used services offered by the City services, and Theresa and her staff’s tireless work have helped to ensure that quality of service. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Theresa also helped transform traditional Library services by offering them through curbside pick-up and expanding laptop and WiFi access for our residents.

The City Council heard a brief recap of federal legislation over the past year and affirmed their federal legislative priorities for the upcoming year. The City Council also reviewed a presentation from the Engineering and Transportation Department on a proposed “road diet” for Hesperian Boulevard from Fairmont Drive to Springlake Drive. The project was supported by a majority of the City Council as it aligns with the City’s previously adopted Complete Streets Policy and will help to better serve pedestrians and bicyclists. The staff report and related presentation materials can be found on Meeting Central. Lastly, the City Council voted unanimously for Council Member Victor Aguilar to serve as Vice Mayor for the 2021 calendar year. On behalf of the organization, I wish him the best of success in this new role.

Sincerely,

Fran Robustelli, Interim City Manager
