COVID-19 UPDATES
Local COVID-19 Situation Improving
On 2/16/21, the County reported 698 new positive COVID cases. A month ago, we had four times that number. The 14-day average of positive cases among those tested is 5.6%. To keep our community safe and healthy, please continue to take precautions with face coverings in public, extra hand washing, isolating and getting tested if you have symptoms.

SD County Still in the Purple Tier
Although the situation is improving, San Diego County is still in the "widespread" Purple Tier. The state updates the Tier assignments each week. With sustained efforts on everyone's part, we can get to the less restrictive Red Tier, which will mean modified indoor dining, indoor museums, and indoor gym availability.
Vaccination Site Information
The County continues to open more vaccination locations. In addition to the Oceanside site in Ocean Ranch, and Tri-City Medical Center, locations have opened in Vista, Carlsbad, and San Marcos. The San Marcos site is dedicated solely to vaccinating seniors; seniors can make an appointment there by calling 211. Some pharmacies and clinics are also receiving vaccines. Active Duty Military and Veterans 75+ may be vaccinated at the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton.

Vaccination Priority Phases
The County currently continues to vaccinate those ages 65+, healthcare workers, and emergency medical responders. See the San Diego County vaccination dashboard

Beginning March 15, and subject to availability, people ages 16-64 who are deemed to be at the very highest risk for morbidity and mortality from COVID-19 due to certain conditions may begin to be vaccinated. Details

Specific Vaccine Information
Several COVID-19 vaccines have been developed. The vaccines are made by different companies. Currently in use are the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. The FDA meets on February 26 to discuss the approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. If approved, that vaccine could be available as soon as March.
Getting to your appointment
If you need a ride, NCTD is offering free transit rides to get to and from your COVID-19 vaccine appointment location. This includes all vaccination sites in the County, including "super vaccination stations," hospitals, and other community immunization locations. You will need to show a confirmation email of your vaccine appointment for that day – either a printout or on a smartphone – to get on board for free. LIFT customers may call LIFT reservations to schedule your ride.
