Dear Resident,

Each month as we assemble the items for City News, I am amazed by the range of activities for residents of all ages that are offered throughout the community. Whether it is an opportunity to be civically engaged, or to participate in activities and seasonal events, there are so many ways to gather as a community and do something fun and interesting.

I wanted to highlight the Recreation Department’s Parents Night Out (see details below), which offers an entertaining and safe activity for your children while you have an adult night out. The combination of Parents Night Out and all of the new activity and restaurants opening in the Van Aken District means that everyone in the family can have an enjoyable evening right here in Shaker Heights.

As a reminder, Trick-or-Treating takes place on Wednesday, October 31 from 6-7:30 pm. There is nothing more joyful than seeing and hearing exuberant children delighting in this tradition. Please drive carefully during this time as the streets will be crowded with excited young children.

I look forward to seeing you around town. Enjoy the season.

Sincerely,

David E. Weiss
Mayor

Leaf Collection Season: October 15-December 15
Some friendly reminders:

  • Rake leaves to your tree lawn, where they will be collected by our crews approximately every two weeks.
  • Please don't rake leaves into the street, where they can clog sewers, cause car accidents, and be tempting places for children to play.
  • Lastly, please keep brush separate from leaves, as brush can clog the leaf vacuum used by our Public Works crews.
