City Council approves moving forward on beach sand restoration projects
The City of Oceanside understands the importance of sandy beaches for the protection of coastal infrastructure, recreation, and the local economy. A year-long study was recently completed to identify feasible solutions to protect the beach from long-term erosion. Strategies were sought that would be environmentally sensitive, financially feasible, and have a reasonable chance of being approved. Six concepts were put through a multi-criteria decision matrix and ranked. As a result, a pilot project consisting of groins and a sand bypass system was determined as the recommended approach, and it was approved by the City Council on August 11. Learn more

Citrus disease detected in Oceanside
The California Department of Food and Agriculture declared a quarantine in parts of North San Diego County after detecting a potentially devastating citrus tree disease in nearly ten trees on residential properties in Oceanside. A tiny insect can ruin fruit, cause the trees to die, and can impact the agricultural industry in our region. There are a handful of regulations in place to help protect citrus, including this quarantine, which limits the transport of citrus plants and material to prevent the spread of the tree disease.
