A Message from the City Manager | | |
Greetings:
As the school year begins, the City of Temecula is proud to promote the "TVUSD Safe Riders" student safety program in partnership with the Temecula Valley Unified School District. Together, we are pleased to announce that the official launch of the "Safe Riders" program is underway to help ensure the safe and responsible use of electric bikes (e-bikes), e-scooters, and traditional bicycles and scooters by students within our community.
After a joint planning effort that began at the start of 2024 between TVUSD, the City, Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, along with nonprofit organizations including Bike Temecula Valley and Caught with Your Helmet On, the TVUSD permit program has officially rolled out with the 2025-26 school year. Temecula students who ride —or plan to ride—a bike, e-bike, e-scooter (ages 16+), scooter, or any other micro-mobility transportation device to and from all TVUSD middle and high schools across the City and School District are required to complete an online safety module and pass a test.
The "TVUSD Safe Riders" safety course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of street safety and the rules of the road, laws, helmet safety, interaction with vehicles and pedestrians, and more. This mandatory course has been designed to be interactive and engaging, while aiming to educate students on traffic laws, safety protocols, and responsible riding practices promoting safety for all who share the roadways. Upon completing the course, students will earn a registration sticker—a requirement for parking their wheels on a TVUSD campus.
The online course is accessible through your student's TVUSD school. More information can be found on their website: tvusd.k12.ca.us/safety-and-security/e-bike-safety.
As this safety program is launched, the City’s subsequent objective is to broaden its reach by implementing a comparable and optional e-transport safety resource module to serve all City of Temecula children and families to take at their discretion.
Sincerely,
Aaron Adams, City Manager

School is Back in Session!
This means streets will be busier with school buses, parents dropping off and picking up children, and young pedestrians and cyclists.
Please keep the following in mind as we all work together to make this a great school year:
- Slow down in school zones
- Watch for pedestrians and cyclists
- Stop for school buses when their red flashing stop sign is extended
- Eliminate distractions while driving
- Remind your students about road safety
- Plan ahead and leave early
Special shoutout to all our Southwest Sheriff's Station School Resource Deputies for their dedication to serving our schools! Have a wonderful 2025/26 school year.

Samantha Fire - Monday Aug. 4
Thank you Fire Chief Crater and Temecula Firefighters, and Captain Rigali along with the entire RSO Southwest Station for your collaborative work to knock out the #SamanthaFire quickly, and protect the neighboring residents and businesses adjacent to Temecula Creek.
The fire could have been more difficult to contain; however, fire mitigation measures were effective. The City conducted weed abatement within Temecula Creek near the Samantha Lane Complex two times earlier this year for fire mitigation and structure clearance. The City also worked with Rancho Water on recent maintenance of the surrounding fire hydrants.
This proactive, preventative fire mitigation assisted our firefighting personnel in protecting structures, and ensuring the Samantha Fire remained a vegetation fire only.

July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30.
Starting in August, Report on Conditions are bi-weekly, August 13.
