A Message from the City Manager | | |
Greetings-
The City of Temecula is proud to team up with MilVet to show our appreciation and support for our deployed and active military troops, and their families. Together, we are collecting new items to create care packages that we hope will bring comfort and encouragement to those who serve and protect us.

Nicolas Road is Almost Complete!
The Nicolas Road project, which includes the widening of Nicolas Road and a new connection from Butterfield Stage Road to Joseph Road, is getting closer to the finish line!
One of the last steps includes putting in four large culverts, funded by the Sommers Bend developers, in order to alleviate the flooding issue on this road.
Watch as Council Member James "Stew" Stewart shows the progress.
Stay tuned for the reopening date, anticipated before the end of the year!

Update on the Hockey Rink Reconstruction
Construction is underway on a fully renewed hockey rink at Ronald Reagan Sports Park, which will get new flooring material, an arena-style roof structure, bleachers, and ADA improvements.

The City of Temecula is excited to embark on the process of updating its General Plan. The General Plan serves as the guiding document for long-term growth and development.
It acts as a blueprint for the community's circulation, land use, and growth management.
What will Temecula look like in year 2050?
We need your help in shaping the City of Temecula's General Plan!
Ways to get involved:
| | |
The General Plan sets the legal land use vision of the future. For example, the following photos reference the current construction of “Elderberry Park,” located at the corner of DePortola and Butterfield Stage Road. This property was designated as "residential" in Temecula’s early General Plan, and that's what it will become today! It will feature 164 single-family homes, along with its own recreation center and landscaped open space as a buffer along Temecula Parkway.
Attend any or all of these General Plan Open House Events and provide your input to guide Temecula’s new General Plan, which will assign future land use decisions to be commercial, residential or open space. It will also update circulation opportunities, growth management, housing and more. Your feedback is essential.

911 is adding a Nurse Navigation Feature:
How does 911 Nurse Navigation work?
Someone calling 911 for a non-life threating situation will be connected to a nurse, who will guide them through options for the most appropriate care.
What determines if a call is transferred to a nurse?
The 911 dispatcher reviews the symptoms using medical protocols to assess the callers’ needs and determine if they can be transferred to the Nurse Navigation line.
Will the Fire Department still respond if someone calls 911?
If someone calls 911 with a serious or life threating emergency, the dispatcher will send first responders to assist them.
What are the Nurse Navigators’ qualifications?
Nurse Navigators are nurses trained to use physician protocols to determine the best course of care according to the callers’ needs.
If someone talks to the nurse and still wants to be transported to the hospital, what happens then?
Every caller has the right to have an ambulance respond to their call. If an ambulance is requested, one will be sent.

Organic Waste Recycling Laws – In 2016 the State of California adopted Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383), the Short-lived Climate Pollutants Act, into law. SB 1383 requires all cities in California to reduce organic waste sent to landfills by 75% by January 1, 2025. SB 1983 also sets a target of rescuing 20% of edible food currently disposed of in landfills.
Furthermore, SB 1383 sets and regulates maximum levels of contamination found in each waste and recycling stream, which ensures materials are disposed of in correct containers and properly processed. As such, the City is encouraging all residents to participate in the recycling program to minimize landfill disposal and comply with State Law.
Environmental Benefits – When organic wastes such as food scraps and green waste are disposed of in landfills, they decompose and produce methane, a greenhouse gas (GHG) that is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide. SB 1383 requires all cities in California to not only provide organic waste collection services to all residents and businesses, but also requires monitoring of items sent to the landfill for disposal. SB 1383 requires organic materials to be recycled using technologies such as Anaerobic Digestion, a process that creates biofuel and high grade compost. Minimizing landfill disposal will reduce GHGs and extend landfill capacities for future generations.
Organics Recycling is Easy! – Instead of placing food scraps in your trash cart, please place them in your green organics cart. Place yard trimmings and food waste directly in the organics cart. Always keep glass, plastic, and all other non-organic material out.
- Place food scraps, and yard trimmings in your green organics cart.
- Set your green cart at the curb next to your trash and recycling carts by 6am on your regular collection day.
- Make sure everything fits in the green organics cart with the lid closed. Keep the lid closed at all times.
What Goes in the Organics Cart? – Organic waste includes food waste, green waste, landscape materials, pruning waste, and non-hazardous wood waste. These materials can all be mixed together in your green organics cart.
- Acceptable kitchen waste items include fruits and vegetables; meat (no bones), fish, dairy; breads and grains; fats, oils, grease and food soiled paper.
- Acceptable yard wasted items include flowers, branches, grass, leaves (no palm tree materials).
- Unacceptable items include all trash and recyclables. Examples include: aluminum, clothing, diapers, dirt, glass, hazardous waste, liquids, metals, plastic, bags.
