A Message from the City Manager

Greetings –

In light of the recent wind events, public safety power shutoff outages, and the devastating fires in Los Angeles County, it is important to once again share emergency preparedness information as it relates to potential natural disasters or large-scale emergencies affecting the City of Temecula.

The City is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents through proactive preparedness initiatives. We have full confidence in Temecula's firefighting operations which include 4-person staffing on all fire engines. The City’s dedication to fire protection serves as a pivotal factor in its upgraded Insurance Services Office (ISO) 2 rating, which places Temecula in the top 7% of the Nation for structure fire suppression capabilities. The expertise and professionalism of our firefighters, and the leadership of Temecula Fire Chief John Crater, have been vital as demonstrated during the recent high winds when our firefighting personnel extinguished numerous spot fires in and surrounding Temecula, safeguarding our City.

Temecula’s ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness also requires that residents and businesses participate, including hardening your homes and buildings, manicuring landscapes, and debris removal. Please review the information below including helpful tips that can be done now. I encourage you to also sign up for emergency alerts (click here).

Your safety remains our highest priority, and we will continue to invest in enhancing our public safety and emergency preparedness initiatives. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep Temecula safe and resilient. Feel free to reach out to my office if you have any questions.

Weed Abatement Program

for Fire Prevention

Vegetation management is needed for effective fire prevention measures. Private property owners, including homeowners, HOAs, commercial properties and vacant landowners, are required to keep their yards and property free of hazardous vegetation throughout the year. The City's comprehensive weed abatement webpage includes frequently asked questions, a link to report violations, and information about the weed abatement process.

Do you know how to shut off your natural gas?

Visit SoCalGas for step by step directions.

NOTE: DO NOT turn off your meter unless you smell natural gas, hear the sound of gas escaping or see other signs of a leak--and ONLY if it's safe to do so. ALSO: Once you have shut off the natural gas at the meter, do not try to turn it back on yourself. If the natural gas service shutoff valve is closed, SoCalGas or another qualified professional should perform a safety inspection before the natural gas service is restored and appliance pilots are relit. Visit SoCalGas for information.

Fire Hydrant Maintenance

Rancho Water actively maintains all hydrants in its system. This includes continuous upkeep, such as testing hydrants and painting them regularly so they can be easily identifiable by emergency crews, and replacing any malfunctioning hydrant as quickly as possible. Read details here.
