Broder Family Homestead Park Construction
Progress on the Broder Family Homestead Park parking lot, at East Natoma Street and Bowen Drive, continues with an expected completion date of November 2018. Once parking lot construction is complete, construction on the 4.7-acre Broder Family Homestead Park will begin. Designed to be passive in nature, complementing the more active Hazel McFarland Park which it is adjacent to it, Broder Family Homestead Park will be the City of Folsom’s 47th park. The park will feature many unique amenities such as an orchard with fruit and nut trees, a re-creation of the Broder homestead structure and ranching games including horseshoes, hide-n-seek, red rover and others. Please note that the northerly entry and exit to Hazel McFarland Park is temporarily closed while the parking lot construction finishes, the southern entry and exit will remain open.

How much water do you use?
There’s a common misconception that most of the water we use at home goes toward household activities like showering, washing dishes and clothes, or flushing the toilet, but in fact, most household water is used outside on our landscapes. Hot, dry summers and triple-digit temperatures have a big impact on our water use in Folsom. An average household uses about 250 gallons of water per day with the majority going toward watering lawns and yards. And, studies show that about 30 percent of water used outdoors is wasted because of overwatering and evaporation. Wondering just how much water your landscape uses? Dropcountr is a free app available to all City of Folsom water customers that provides quick access to personal water use information. Users can track their household water use, identify water leaks and compare personal water use to the average neighborhood household use. Signing up is quick and easy. Simply download the Dropcountr app from Apple’s app store or Android’s Google Play, or go to www.dropcountr.com/home to sign up online. All you need is your account number and name as it appears on your City of Folsom water bill.
Join Folsom Police Department’s Citizen’s Academy and CAPS
The Citizens Academy is an annual 12-week academy from January through March that provides an in-depth look at the Folsom Police and Fire Departments as well as other city services. Volunteers can be seen driving around town conducting vacation checks, patrol parking lots and bike trails as extra eyes and ears for the police department, help with public education and safety fairs, work at the front counters, assist with traffic control during parades and DUI checkpoints, and assist in leading the city’s neighborhood watch and dog walker watch programs.
