Water Level at Willow Hill Reservoir to be Lowered for Inspection
|
The City of Folsom Environmental and Water Resources Department plans to lower water levels at the Willow Hill Reservoir in May and June. City engineers will evaluate the design and construction options for an upcoming valve and pipeline repair project at the reservoir. These repairs are required by the California Department of Water Resources, Division of Safety of Dams.
Beginning in early May, water operators will start lowering the water level by turning off the water supply from the city’s water treatment plant, which feeds the reservoir. The water level will be lowered by several feet over the next month until it is approximately four feet below normal operating water levels. This will allow city engineers to get a better look at facilities normally underwater.
Water levels will gradually return to normal levels once the evaluation is complete in May or June. The reservoir is located at Willow Hill Reservoir Community Park, 321 Barnhill Drive, and is a popular destination for fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching. The reservoir will remain open to the public, but allowable recreational activities may be modified during the inspection. Stay informed at www.folsom.ca.us.
For more information, contact City of Folsom Associate Civil Engineer Kelsie Gugino at 916-461-6166 or kgugino@folsom.ca.us.

Weekend White Rock Road Closure Planned
|
A section of White Rock Road will close from 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, through Sunday, April 25, 7 a.m., as crews modify existing White Rock Road to prepare for bridge construction for the Capital SouthEast Connector.
White Rock Road will be closed from east of Scott Road to west of East Bidwell Street. The city has installed message signs to alert motorists about the closures, flaggers will direct traffic, and a detour has been established.
This segment of the Capital SouthEast Connector project will extend from Prairie City Road to E. Bidwell Street, construct a four-lane bridge over Alder Creek, and realign and widen segments of White Rock Road.
The Capital SouthEast Connector project is a 34-mile expressway that will link I-5 and Highway 99 south of Elk Grove to Highway 50 east of El Dorado Hills. When complete, the long-planned project will serve as a commute alternative to Highways 50 and 99, relieve traffic congestion, promote economic development, preserve Sacramento County open spaces, and improve roadway safety. Work on the Capital SouthEast Connector project has been divided into segments, which will be completed as funding is available.

Spring is in the air, and so are mosquitoes! As the days get warmer and people start spending more time outside, everyone needs to take precautions and protect themselves from mosquito-transmitted diseases.
The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District urges residents to do their part in preventing mosquitoes around their homes. At least once a week, remember to look around your yard and drain any water from flowerpots, birdbaths, tires, dog dishes, and other small sources where water can accumulate and provide a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Ticks are another concern this season. In recent weeks, the District’s laboratory surveillance program has seen an increase in the number of ticks that have tested positive for Lyme Disease. Most of the infected ticks have been found along the American River Parkway and the Willow Creek Recreation Area. The best way to prevent getting tick-borne diseases is to avoid coming into contact with them and preventing bites. If you are spending time outdoors in areas where ticks are common, remember to walk along well-groomed trails, use tick repellent, and perform tick checks on all family members and pets.
