HOP ON OVER TO THE FESTIVAL OF EGGS SATURDAY, APRIL 8

Join Folsom Parks & Recreation Saturday, April 8 at Lembi Lembi Park, 1302 Riley Street, for the Festival of Eggs. The event, formerly known as the Spring Eggstravaganza, includes all of the crowd favorite elements: a pancake breakfast (purchase onsite), free kiddie carnival games hosted by the Folsom Teen Council, entertainment, vendor displays, and lots of hands-on activities.


Kids ages 6 and under should arrive from 8 to 9:30 a.m., and ages 7 to 10 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.—remember to bring a basket with you. Pick up your Bunny Trail Map and begin your journey as you visit vendors along the trail to collect goodies and eggs. Join the bunny at the end of the trail for a special photo op to commemorate your day. Those who complete all of the stops listed on the map will receive a ticket for a special egg hunt and a chance to win a Golden Egg Prize.

FOLSOM WASTE AND RECYCLING EARTH WEEK EVENTS

Join the City of Folsom Waste & Recycling Division for a variety of free events during the Earth Week celebration from April 17 to 21.


  • Tuesday, April 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. - Drive-thru Kitchen Pail Pickup Event, Lembi Park
  • Wednesday, April 19, from 6 to 7 p.m. - Recycling 101 Workshop, Folsom Community Center
  • Thursday, April 20, from 3 to 4 p.m. - Storytime and Activities, Folsom Public Library
  • Friday, April 21, from 10 to 11 a.m. - Backyard Composting Workshop, Lew Howard Park

 

Enter Earth Day K-5 Coloring Contest!

Coloring contest pages will be delivered to Folsom elementary schools during the month of April and will be available for pick up at the Folsom Public Library beginning April 11. This year’s coloring contest prompt is “I care for the environment by…”. Winners will be announced May 12 and receive a small prize.

LITERARY GARDENS: GREAT BOOKS INSPIRED BY GREAT GARDENS

Throughout the history of literature, gardens have inspired authors and embellished their pages. At 1 p.m., Saturday, April 15, the Folsom Public Library will host a presentation on some of the most beloved gardens in fiction. Presenter Carrie Sessaregeo will discuss famous fictional gardens from Frances Hodgson Burnett's famous novel "The Secret Garden" to Sarah Addison Allen's novel "Garden Spells" with stops along the way at the gardens of Beatrix Potter, Emily Dickinson, Alice Walker, and many more.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR SUMMER DAY CAMPS

Online registration is open for Folsom Parks & Recreation summer day camps; selections include zookeeper camps, STEM camps, academic and enrichment camps, weekly themed Vacation Zone and Summer CAVE camps, and a huge variety of sports-focused camps. Camps are a great way for children to keep their minds engaged and bodies active through indoor and outdoor activities, creative play, and social interaction. The camps are conducted by trained and caring staff and provide a supervised, positive, and inclusive environment. Early registration is encouraged as many of the camps fill quickly. GALLERY AT 48 NATOMA HOSTS “PLAYFUL PIECES” EXHIBIT RECEPTION APRIL 14

The “Playful Pieces” exhibit brings together two artists focusing on the quirks and fun imagery from their childhoods. Cherie Hacker’s current series of paintings explores playful experiences that have brought joy to her life. Sandy Calhoun uses her skills as a ceramic artist to examine her quirks and neurosis, creating works that are humorous and personal.


The exhibit reception is open from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 14. The public is invited to attend the free reception to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments and live music. The exhibit continues in the gallery through June 15.


The professional art gallery is located in the 48 Natoma Senior and Art Center; the gallery’s regular hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Call 916-461-6601 for more information.

COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY SEEKS SPONSORSHIP SUPPORT

Planning is underway for the 10th annual Community Service Day Saturday, September 16. This major citywide event mobilizes thousands of volunteers to complete dozens of service projects throughout Folsom that make a positive, lasting impact. Sponsorship support is vital to the success of the event, providing funding for the supplies volunteers use to complete 80+ service projects throughout the community. TRAILS DAY AND ARBOR DAY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Join us for the 28th annual Folsom Trails Day/Arbor Day event Saturday, April 15. Volunteers are needed to work on projects to improve our beautiful trails and urban forest. This event is a great way for individuals, families, co-workers, and school and service groups to give back to the community. All registered volunteers receive a free lunch and commemorative T-shirt.


Volunteers will meet at Econome Park (1900 Parkway Drive) at 8:30 a.m. to check in and to receive directions to their assigned project site. Volunteers will assist on one of three projects; two of the projects include trail shoulder repair; the third project involves removing tree cages from planted mitigation trees.


Preregistration is mandatory; volunteers must be age 12 or older, and those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers should bring sunscreen, gloves, protective eyewear, and water. Learn more and register online or email Brett Bollinger with questions.
