New Additions to Folsom Fire's CERT Fleet

The Folsom Fire Department Volunteer Services added three new vehicles to its fleet to better serve the community and respond to emergencies. The new vehicles are valuable tools that will help the Folsom Fire Department protect life and property while providing best-in-class emergency services for the city.

The three new Folsom Fire Department vehicles include:

  • CERT37: a retired Folsom Fire Department ambulance converted for use as a primary Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) team transport and trailer hauler. CERT37 is used to transport a team of six and has already been used to provide firefighter rehab and set up a first aid station.
  • REHAB37: a 25-foot trailer used for incident command for deployments and firefighter rehab for large incidents.
  • CERTUTV: an all-terrain vehicle designed for medical patient transport in off-highway situations and team transportation.

The city purchased the vehicles with funds from state grants, a Sacramento County Transit Occupancy Tax grant, Friends of Folsom CERT 501c3 fundraisers, and the Intel Foundation’s Volunteer Matching Program.

Based on Intel employee volunteer hours, the Intel Foundation makes monetary donations to nonprofits and schools where Intel employees donate their time. Friends of Folsom CERT 501c3 fundraisers received approximately $10,000 from the Intel Foundation earlier this year thanks to employee volunteer hours reported in 2021.

Right Care, Right Place, Right Time

Learn When to Call 911

The pandemic caused many people to delay needed health care. Now, first-line responders are seeing many more people call 911 for non-emergency care–reducing the response capacity for time-sensitive and life-threatening situations in Sacramento County, including Folsom.

Sacramento’s busiest hospital emergency departments have seen a 300% increase in patients arriving via ambulance at the lowest, least sick level. And more than half of patients arriving at the emergency departments are ultimately not sick enough to be admitted to the hospital for further care.

With these significant increases in non-urgent care, Sacramento region’s first responders and hospital systems are encouraging people to get the right care, in the right place, at the right time. By reducing non-emergency 911 calls, first responders can better serve patients and the wider community as efficiently as possible.

When you get sick or hurt, deciding whether to see your regular doctor, go to a hospital emergency room, or visit an urgent care walk-in center can be hard. The Where to Go for Care guide is designed to help you make the best choice. If you feel you are in an emergency where your life is at risk, call 911.

Pumpkin P.S.A.

The only thing spookier than a Jack-o'-lantern is a soggy, moldy Jack-o'-lantern. Luckily, plain and carved pumpkins (mold and all) can be tossed in the Green Bin–no bag required. Remember to remove candles or lights before disposing of Jack-o'-lanterns. Painted or artificial pumpkins are not allowed in the Green Bin and must be thrown in the trash.

Use of Fireworks During Diwali/Deepavali Festival of Lights

The Indian festival of Diwali or Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is traditionally celebrated with the use of California State Fire Marshal registered "Safe and Sane" fireworks. The use of approved fireworks in conjunction with this festival may occur Saturday, October 22 through Monday, October 24 in the City of Folsom.

The Folsom Fire Department is asking the public to take precautions when using fireworks during the festival period.

  • Make sure the firework has the State Fire Marshal "Safe and Sane" seal.
  • The use of fireworks for this celebration must be conducted under adult supervision at all times.
  • Have a bucket of water, sand, or garden hose available at firing sites.
  • Read all instructions before use.
  • Never alter, modify, or enhance fireworks. Use only in the manner intended.
  • Make sure fireworks have proper clearance from flammable materials, including dry grass and brush.

The use of dangerous and illegal fireworks is prohibited within all areas of the City of Folsom.
