Local caroling groups and musicians provide the merry sounds of the season, and the Folsom Valley Railway miniature train provides special nighttime rides.

Folsom Police Warn of Jewelry Thefts Targeting Elderly Community Members |
The Folsom Police Department is investigating jewelry thefts that target elderly members of the community. In each theft, a woman with an Eastern European accent first talks to the victim, then informs them it was her birthday, and drapes the victim in fake jewelry while simultaneously removing the victim’s authentic jewelry. The suspects reportedly travel by vehicle with up to two to four occupants at a time, both male and female. The thefts are not violent, as the suspects use sleight-of-hand techniques to steal the jewelry.
Police ask the community to share this information with family, friends, and neighbors. The Folsom Police Department encourages immediate reports of anything suspicious. For emergencies, call 911, and for non-emergency dispatch, call 916-461-6400.

Folsom Police Department Offers Vacation Home Checks |
Heading out of town for the holidays? Sign up for a free vacation check with the Folsom Police Department’s Citizens Assisting Public Safety (CAPS) volunteers.
As a free service to residents, Folsom Police Department volunteers will check your home while you are away on vacation. The service deters would-be robbers during the busy travel season and provides residents extra protection and peace of mind. As often as once a day, a police department volunteer will walk the perimeter of the home, check doors and windows to make sure they are locked, and remove any papers or packages that are a tell-tale sign that the resident is not home. When you submit a vacation check application, it also provides the Folsom Police Department with your contact information, should the need arise. Learn more and sign up for a vacation check on the Folsom Police Department website.

From now through the end of February, residents and businesses in Sacramento County—including the City of Folsom—must check the daily burn status before using a wood burning fireplace or other wood burning device. Wood smoke, much like the smoke from wildfires, contains invisible particles that are small enough to enter the bloodstream. Winter weather traps this harmful air pollution close to the ground, which can pose serious health threats for us all.
On days when fine particle pollution (PM2.5) is forecast to be high and we are all exposed to unhealthy air, the Sac Metro Air District will restrict or prohibit the burning of any solid fuel, including wood, pellets, or manufactured fire logs.
Here’s how to Check Before You Burn:
- Download the free Sacramento Region Air Quality app from your preferred app store
- Visit www.AirQuality.org
- Call 1-877-NO-BURN-5 (1-877-662-8765)
- Sign up to get a daily Air Alert email at www.SpareTheAir.com—input your zip code and check the “Daily Air Quality Forecast” box
