Fire Safety: Ladder Fuel Removal Project
Fire safety is a top priority for the City of Folsom. Crews contracted by the city will begin to remove ladder fuel the week of June 13. The work will be conducted in open space areas, parks, and Landscaping and Lighting (L&L) Districts.

Ladder fuel consists of living or dead vegetation, including lower branches on large trees, small trees, and shrubs that grow under the canopy of the larger trees. “This vegetation is easily ignitable under the right conditions, allowing a low burning fire to vertically climb up from the ground and into the tree canopy. Canopy fires involve additional fuel which can rapidly spread and are much more difficult for fire crews to contain,” said Folsom Fire Chief Ken Cusano.

Effective management of ladder fuel helps preserve and protect Folsom’s neighborhoods, parks, and open space areas, maintains the habitat of native plants and animals, and provides fire crews with greater access in the event of a fire. Learn more about the city’s ladder fuel plan and weed abatement and defensible space requirements on the City of Folsom Fire Department webpage.

The Water Forum Agreement: Folsom’s Commitment to Stewardship of the Lower American River
This summer, the Sacramento Water Forum is scheduled to undertake two projects to enhance crucial habitat for fall-run Chinook salmon and steelhead trout in the Lower American River at the Nimbus Basin and Lower Sailor Bar.

This work is crucial to preserving the environmental resources that make our community unique. Previous projects have demonstrated measurable results, including surges in native fish nests in areas where there were very few prior to enhancement.

The projects at Nimbus Basin and Lower Sailor Bar are expected to begin August 1 and finish by mid-October, before anadromous Chinook salmon return in high numbers from the Pacific Ocean to the Lower American River. The public is invited to learn more during a Virtual Information Session on Monday, June 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. Find more information and registration link at waterforum.org/habitat2022.

Summer of Music Concert Series Begins Friday, June 10
The free Friday evening concert series returns in Folsom City Lions Park. Bands play from 7 to 9 p.m.; bring a picnic or purchase food and treats from a rotating selection of food trucks. The June 10 concert–the first in the four-part series--features the band FBI, playing a variety of R&B and funk hits. Featured food trucks at the June 10 concert are West Coast Taco Bar and Coasties.

Find the full concert lineup at Facebook.com/FolsomParksandRec – each concert also streams live, so you can still enjoy the music even if you can’t make it to the park. The Summer of Music series is presented by Folsom Parks & Recreation.
Organic Waste Collection Begins Next Month
Beginning in July, all residents will be required to recycle their food waste to comply with SB 1383, a state law designed to reduce emissions of climate pollutants. Failure to comply with this State regulation can result in citations and even fines. To help residents adapt to this new requirement, Folsom’s Waste and Recycling Division is modifying its services and providing additional resources.

Starting July 1, your current yard waste container will become your organics container. Mix yard waste along with bagged food scraps. Do not start sooner—the current process for green waste disposal does not yet support food waste. The new process will require food scraps and food-soiled paper to be bagged in clear plastic or compostable bags before being mixed with yard waste. Your organics container will be serviced weekly along with your trash container.

Bus Stop Improvements Survey: Let SacRT Know!
Has getting around Folsom and the greater Sacramento region on a bus been a challenge for you? Is your route disconnected? Do the amenities at your stop need maintenance?

Civic Thread, in partnership with Sacramento Regional Transit, is conducting a survey to better understand the conditions and accessibility of SacRT bus stops around the city and region. Your feedback will be valuable in highlighting where challenges and barriers exist to accessing active transportation and bus amenities that need to be improved.

The survey will take about 3 to 5 minutes to complete and is available in nine languages. The deadline to complete the survey is June 17. For any questions or issues completing the survey, contact Kathryn Canepa.
