Keep Pipes Free of Fats, Oils and Grease this Holiday Season
|
The City of Folsom's Environmental and Water Resources Department reminds residents to dispose of food properly this holiday season. Fats, oils and grease-also known as FOG-can clog sewer pipes and cause overflows. Food items such as butter, gravy, meat fats, sour cream, ice cream and salad dressings are considered FOG. Properly disposing of FOG will help avoid costly repairs to plumbing, prevent blockages in the City's sewer system and protect our waterways.
Tips for Properly Disposing of FOG:
- Can it! Once cooled, pour leftover oils and grease into a sturdy container like an empty coffee can or glass jar.
- Scrape it! Before washing, scrape out fats, oils, and grease from pots and pans.
- Trash it!: Put fatty and greasy food scraps in the garbage, not down the drain.

Traffic Alert: Reduced Speed Zone on East Natoma Street
|
Construction work along Natoma Street for the Oak Parkway Trail bike/pedestrian undercrossing is progressing, with major excavation work completed, and the relocation of underground gas lines nearly finished.
Motorists traveling on East Natoma Street are encouraged to use caution as traffic is shifted with a reduced speed limit of 25 mph between Fargo Way and Prison Road. For the duration of the project, no left turn onto Fargo Way will be available for westbound traffic on East Natoma Street.
Montrose Street access is available by turning left onto Wales from Natoma Street, and making the first left onto Montrose. Motorists should not cut through business center parking lots to reach Montrose Street.
Cyclists and pedestrians should note that due to construction, the Oak Parkway Trail between Marchant Drive and East Natoma Street will remain closed through May 2019. Detours are in place to direct trail users around the closure.
Work to connect the Oak Parkway Trail to the Johnny Cash Trail near East Natoma Street and Prison Road began in early October. This project will create a tunnel directly under East Natoma Street and provide a seamless and safe route for trail users to transition between the two trails.
The Oak Parkway Trail undercrossing is scheduled to open for public use in spring 2019. For more information about the project, contact City of Folsom Senior Park Planner Brett Bollinger at
bbollinger@folsom.ca.us
or call 916-496-1505.
